The American College of Graduate MedicalEducation (ACGME - I) is one of the most prestigious and rigorous accreditations in residency training in the world.
As a university with a passion for innovation and excellent training quality, from the very beginning, VinUni has strategically cooperated with one of the world's leading universities in medical training, the University of Pennsylvania, to design and implement the program based on the principles of ACGME-I accreditation.
VinUni's residency program meets ACGME-I standards with the most stringent accreditation requirements.
The ACGME-I residency training program is a competency-based clinical training program with specific competency milestones that BSNT students need to achieve to work independently upon graduation.
Resident physicians will be assessed for their comprehensive clinical competence at work through examining and treating patients at the practice hospital according to each set stage.
The system not only assesses clinical medical knowledge, but also assesses clinical competence, procedural competence, communication, teamwork, systems-based practice, and learning ability through daily patient care.
More importantly, on-the-job assessment and regular feedback from clinical faculty will help residents improve any missing competencies.

Operating a training program that meets AGCME-I accreditation requirements requires a large amount of resources, especially faculty. The biggest challenge for residency programs that want to achieve ACGME-I first is the 1:6 resident/chief faculty ratio, and the 1:1 resident/total faculty ratio in the program.
This requirement aims to ensure that resident physicians are regularly guided, evaluated, and receive feedback on their patient treatment abilities. With great effort and close cooperation from Vinmec Healthcare System, 108 Military Hospital, and National Children's Hospital, VinUni has achieved this difficult requirement.
In addition, the program also requires lecturers to be equipped with clinical teaching skills at the bedside, assessment skills, and skills to provide feedback to students. Lecturers of VinUni's residency training program participate in training courses directly developed by UPenn clinical education experts.

Previously, in July 2023, VinUni was officially announced by ACGME - I as a training institution that meets international quality accreditation. With this achievement, VinUni is the first medical training institution in Vietnam and the second in Southeast Asia (after DUKE-NUS of the National University of Singapore) to achieve this result.
In March 2024, officially announced on the website, ACGME-I granted accreditation certificates to 12 postgraduate medical training programs worldwide, including 3 residency programs of the Institute of Health Sciences - VinUni University.
According to ACGME-I, graduates from ACGME-I accredited training programs will have the opportunity to be admitted to specialized training programs in countries with programs under the same system.
The fact that VinUni's Institute of Health Sciences continues to achieve ACGME-I accreditation standards for three residency training programs marks an important milestone not only for VinUni but also for medical education in Vietnam.
About VinUni residency program
VinUni University currently has 3 specialties co-designed and quality-authenticated by the University of Pennsylvania: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics and a new specialty of Orthopedics and Traumatology opened in 2023.
In addition to studying with experts from the University of Pennsylvania, BSNT students will have the opportunity to be guided and mentored by leading Professors and Doctors at Vinmec - a practicing hospital with international quality certification JCI, and a number of leading public hospitals such as the National Children's Hospital, 108 Central Military Hospital...
During their studies, VinUni residents also have the opportunity to participate in advanced specialized courses, report on topics, and exchange at world-class VinUni partner facilities in Austria, the US, etc.
In the 2023-2024 academic year, doctors who are admitted to the VinUni residency program will receive scholarships from VinUni and Vinmec, as well as receive additional monthly allowances. All students will be guaranteed employment at the Vinmec Healthcare System with competitive incomes immediately after graduation.
