5 abnormalities that warn of blocked coronary veins.

The coronary veins help transport CO2-rich blood from the heart muscle back to the right atrium, continuing the circulatory process. When the coronary veins are blocked, blood cannot flow normally, increasing the risk of myocardial infarction and other complications.

Here are five unusual signs that may indicate a blockage in the veins of the heart.

One of the most obvious signs of a blocked vein in the heart is chest pain or tightness. The pain may manifest as a feeling of pressure, constriction, or burning in the chest area, especially in the middle or left side of the chest, according to the health website Healthline (USA).

The pain may radiate to the arm, neck, jaw, or back. If the pain lasts for more than a few minutes and does not subside with rest, it could be a warning sign of coronary artery disease or a serious blockage of the heart vein.

Sudden shortness of breath

Blocked veins in the heart affect the heart's ability to pump blood, causing shortness of breath. Patients may feel breathless during light activity, when lying down, or even at rest. If this feeling is accompanied by fatigue or dizziness, it could be heart failure. This is because blood cannot flow efficiently through the heart veins.

Abnormal heart rate

An abnormally fast or slow heart rate, or atrial fibrillation, can be a sign of venous obstruction in the heart. When blood flow back to the heart is unstable, the heart has to work harder to pump blood, leading to arrhythmias.

Patients may notice a rapid heartbeat, skipped beats, or a feeling of anxiety or palpitations. If these symptoms are accompanied by chest pain or shortness of breath, immediate medical attention is necessary.

Leg swelling

Another effect of venous congestion in the heart is fluid buildup in the ankles and feet, causing these areas to swell. This is a sign of congestive heart failure, where the heart cannot pump blood effectively, leading to fluid retention in the body. Swelling is often more noticeable at the end of the day or after prolonged sitting, accompanied by a heavy, uncomfortable feeling in the legs.

Chronic fatigue

Heart vein blockage also causes patients to frequently feel tired and exhausted without a clear cause. Because when blood flow is restricted, the body does not receive enough oxygen and nutrients, leading to lethargy, reduced concentration, and easy loss of energy during light exercise, according to Healthline.
