The "return" of the old land and new name after the merger of the two villages of Pire 1 and Pire 2 into A Bung commune, Dakrong district, has definitively resolved the long-standing administrative boundary dispute between Thua Thien Hue province and Quang Tri province, maintaining political stability and social order in the area, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and improving the material and spiritual lives of the people.
Elder Ho Van Lien of Pire 2 village, A Bung commune, Dakrong district, confided that previously, the people of villages 6 and 7 in Hong Thuy commune, A Luoi district, were "unhappy" about the merger with A Bung commune, Dakrong district, because the name A Luoi had existed in their minds for a long time. However, the administrative boundary inconsistencies left over from history had to be adjusted to open up a new phase of historical development. Since "returning" to the administrative boundaries of A Bung commune, Dakrong district, the ambiguous land disputes between the two localities have ceased, and the people are now able to live and produce with peace of mind.
In particular, after the administrative boundary demarcation between A Bung and Hong Thuy communes, the people received attention and support from the local authorities of both provinces, gaining more than they lost a name. The people of A Bung and Hong Thuy are all of the Pa Ko ethnic group and share a similar culture, so they integrate easily.
From 2020 to the present, the A Bung commune government in Dakrong district has focused its efforts on investing in infrastructure, building community cultural centers, supporting the elimination of temporary housing, and providing technical assistance and plant seeds to the two merged villages of Pire 1 and Pire 2. As a result, the lives of the people have improved significantly. Poor households, near-poor households, families receiving preferential treatment, and those who have contributed to the revolution all benefit from the preferential policies of the Party and the State.
According to Ho Van Tich, Secretary of the Party Branch of Pire 2 village, A Bung commune, after 5 years of being merged back into A Bung commune, Dakrong district, the lives of the people in Pire 2 village have improved significantly. On the land previously disputed between Hong Thuy commune and A Bung commune, now that it has been merged into the administrative boundaries of A Bung commune, the people no longer engage in encroachment, illegal settlement, or land disputes as before. With stable housing, people can prosper. Currently, each family in Pire 2 village has an average of about 2 hectares of stable cultivated land, free from disputes, allowing people to invest in economic development with peace of mind. Among them, more than a dozen households cultivate over 10 hectares each, and the people's lives are quite prosperous.
“After the merger with A Bung commune, my family now has 17 hectares of land for production that is no longer subject to disputes as before. I have planted 12 hectares of melaleuca trees and 5 hectares of cassava, and raised more than 10 buffaloes and cows. In 2024, the income from the 5 hectares of cassava alone brought my family nearly 200 million VND. Many households in Pire 2 village, after the merger with A Bung commune, no longer have land disputes, so they can confidently develop production and stabilize their lives like my family,” shared Ho Van Tich, Secretary of the Party Branch of Pire 2 village, A Bung commune.
Chairman of the People's Committee of A Bung commune, Ho Van Hien, said: "After the merger of Pire 1 and Pire 2 villages into A Bung commune according to Government Resolution No. 31/NQ-CP, from 2020 to 2023, Dakrong district and A Bung commune focused resources from national target programs, totaling over 22 billion VND, to prioritize investment in infrastructure development to connect and serve the people and production of the two new villages, including: a bridge connecting the Ho Chi Minh Highway to Pire 1 and Pire 2 villages; village cultural houses; street lighting along the main roads and concrete roads in the villages and hamlets..."
The local authorities also focused on providing seedlings and technical support, integrating resources from production development programs for the people. From having over 80% of households living in poverty, the two newly merged villages of Pire 1 and Pire 2 now have a higher standard of living and income than the average for the entire A Bung commune.
In particular, thanks to the clear demarcation of administrative boundaries, there is no longer any ambiguity regarding land disputes, and people are now more stable in terms of morale and production. The situation where some individuals took advantage of the "ambiguity" in disputed administrative boundaries to illegally cut down trees and mine gold has also ceased. Security and order in the area are ensured. The people are happy and excited about the achievements of their new lives.
Many years ago, due to prolonged administrative boundary disputes, the social order and security situation in A Bung commune, Dakrong district, and Hong Thuy commune, A Luoi district, was complex and posed a potential risk of becoming a flashpoint.
Thanks to many correct and timely policies and guidelines from the A Bung commune and Dakrong district authorities, prioritizing the mobilization of investment resources for the two villages of Pire 1 and Pire 2 after the merger, along with the unity and shared responsibility of the people here, they always trust in the leadership of the Party and the laws of the State.
Although still clinging to the old name deeply ingrained in their consciousness, the important thing is that after the merger and return to A Bung commune, Dakrong district, Quang Tri province, the villagers have stable, prosperous, and happy lives. A new day begins with less anxiety in people's hearts, thinking about the future in unity to build a richer and more beautiful homeland.
