The Ho Chi Minh City FC squad list for the match against Nam Dinh was finalized and sent to the organizers a few hours before the game (which starts at 6 PM). As in recent matches, due to Patrik Le Giang's injury, Tran Van Tien will be the starting goalkeeper, while Nguyen Manh Cuong will be the reserve for Ho Chi Minh City FC.
However, just minutes before the match, an unexpected incident occurred for Ho Chi Minh City FC when Van Tien suffered an injury and was unable to play. The coaching staff was forced to remove Van Tien from the squad and bring in goalkeeper Manh Cuong. He was also the only healthy goalkeeper of Ho Chi Minh City FC.
Because the league regulations stipulate that clubs must have at least one reserve goalkeeper, coach Phùng Thanh Phương and his colleagues were forced to choose a replacement, and Adriano Schmidt was assigned the task. This means that if he is brought onto the field, Schmidt can only wear the gloves and play as a goalkeeper.
Incidents involving goalkeepers are rare in the V.League and the National First Division. Most recently, in the match against PVF-CAND in Round 13 of the First Division on April 6th, Hue FC lost both goalkeepers early in the game due to injury, forcing them to bring in a central defender. As a result, Hue suffered a heavy 0-3 defeat.
Returning to the V.League Round 18 match at Thien Truong Stadium, Nam Dinh is leading Ho Chi Minh City FC 1-0 after half an hour of play.
