Alexander-Arnold arrived late for Real Madrid's training session. |
According to Marca , the English star arrived late for a crucial training session ahead of the derby against Atletico Madrid on the morning of March 23rd. This is believed to be the reason why he was surprisingly not included in the starting lineup, despite previously being a regular starter in both La Liga and the Champions League.
The decision, made by coach Alvaro Arbeloa, was intended to send a clear message about discipline and order in the dressing room. Dani Carvajal replaced Alexander-Arnold on the right flank.
Nevertheless, Alexander-Arnold was brought on in the 64th minute and quickly made his mark with an assist for Vinicius Junior to complete his brace, helping Real Madrid come from behind to win 3-2. The other goal for the Bernabeu side was scored by Federico Valverde.
After the match, coach Arbeloa refused to confirm whether Alexander-Arnold was dropped from the starting lineup for disciplinary reasons, asserting that he always selects the optimal lineup for each game. However, Spanish media reported that this decision was clearly intended as a deterrent.
Previously, Alexander-Arnold was also not included in the 35-man England squad under Thomas Tuchel, despite right-back Reece James being absent due to injury. Instead, names like Tino Livramento and Djed Spence were given the opportunity.
A series of events on and off the pitch have put Alexander-Arnold in a rather uncomfortable position, even though he continues to demonstrate his professional value whenever given the opportunity.
