SpanishFormer Barca defender Dani Alves held a party with family and friends when he was released on bail after 15 months in prison for rape.
Alves was released on bail pending appeal and left Brians 2 prison on March 25, after posting bail of 3 million USD. A day later, according to Diario Sport, the 40-year-old former defender partied until 5 a.m. with family and friends at a private villa in the Esplugues de Llobregat district, Barcelona.
Alves is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December 12, then was arrested a month later. In February 2022, the court sentenced the former Barca star to four and a half years in prison. After that, Alves was released on bail and pending appeal, but had to surrender his Spanish and Brazilian passports and appear in court once a week.
Alves could have been released sooner if he could handle $1,08 million in bail. According to lawyer Ines Guardiola, the client has two Spanish bank accounts, including one with no balance and one with 55.000 USD remaining, while the amount of judicial confiscation is 54.000.
Alves was once said to have a fortune of $60 million, but his Brazilian account was frozen due to problems with his ex-wife Dinorah Santana. The former player is expected to receive 11,6 million after his tax lawyer Fernando Mota won four cases before the Spanish tax authorities. The hearing to determine Alves' bail also noted that the defendant would receive "a large sum of money" from the treasury.
Former teammate Neymar's father was expected to help Alves pay the guarantee in advance, but later denied it due to pressure from Brazil. The representative of former teammate Memphis Depay also denied that his client paid the guarantee. “It is fake news and completely untrue,” representative Sebastien Ledure told the channel News telecinco.
Alves has won 43 titles, including three Champions Leagues, six La Ligas with Barca and two UEFA Cups with Sevilla. He also won two Copa Americas with the Brazilian team and the 2021 Olympic gold medal with the U23 team. Of his generation, Alves is considered the best right-back in the world.
