(GLO) - Google has officially introduced Android 17 with a series of upgrades focused on artificial intelligence (AI), marking a major shift as this operating system is no longer just a platform for running phones but is becoming an intelligent "digital assistant".

The centerpiece of the new version is Gemini Intelligence – an AI system deeply integrated into the entire Android experience.

According to Google, Gemini on Android 17 no longer functions as a traditional chatbot but has become an "AI Agent" capable of proactively performing tasks on behalf of the user.

This AI can automatically search for information in Gmail, assist with scheduling, ordering rides, ordering food, or seamlessly handle multiple tasks without the user needing to open each application separately. This is considered a new breakthrough in the AI ​​race on smartphones.

Another notable upgrade is the Rambler feature integrated into the Gboard keyboard. This tool uses AI to understand how people communicate in real life, automatically removing filler words like "um" and "ah," correcting hesitant speech, and supporting mixed-language conversations. As a result, voice input becomes more natural and accurate.

Android 17 also brings many improvements to multitasking and device linking. The Task Continuity feature allows you to quickly switch the currently running application from your phone to your tablet or another Android device, similar to Apple's Handoff mechanism.

Additionally, Google has added the ability to open multiple apps in a floating window format, optimizing the experience on large-screen devices and foldable phones.

In terms of cameras, Android 17 supports the RAW14 image format, which helps preserve more detail and color compared to the previous RAW10 standard. Google also added new APIs to make switching between lenses smoother, reducing lag when zooming or switching cameras.

Beyond just AI and performance upgrades, Android 17 also focuses on "digital well-being." Google introduced the Pause Point feature to curb "doomscrolling"—the habit of mindlessly browsing social media for extended periods. The system will proactively remind users or create pauses to help them better manage their device usage time.

Additionally, Android 17 enhances privacy with a mechanism that allows apps to access only specific contacts instead of the entire contact list. This gives users tighter control over their personal data.

The tech community considers Android 17 a landmark version from Google, as AI is no longer just assisting users but is gradually taking over their daily tasks.
