On September 26th, brothers Li Mingzhe and Li Mingxin brilliantly defeated the pair Jih Shian Yeo (Singapore)/Yeong Ding Hwang (Taiwan) with a score of 21/12 to win the 50+ Open (for athletes aged 50 and over) championship.

This is an extremely impressive and convincing achievement, as at the 2024 World Pickleball Championship Series held in Bali (Indonesia), the Ly brothers achieved a perfect winning record, including two 11/0 victories and two victories with a significant score difference of 11/1.

In the quarterfinals, the two former Vietnamese table tennis players defeated the Indonesian pair Rudy Gusnadi/Joni Marhenriyanto with a score of 15/2, before advancing to the semifinals with a 15-8 victory over the home team's Edy Kurniawan/Igusti Ngurah.

Earlier, veteran athletes Ly Minh Triet and Le Minh caused a sensation by jointly winning the gold medal in the 35+ Open (ages 35 and above). This is a very impressive achievement, especially considering that Minh Triet had just returned from injury and still had to compete with a knee brace.

The former player who helped the Vietnamese table tennis team win their first silver medal at the 1995 SEA Games in Chiang Mai (Thailand) said: "We are very happy to have had a successful tournament, bringing gold medals and glory to the Vietnamese flag."

In particular, the gold medal in the 35+ Open category was truly unexpected, because initially we just encouraged each other to try our best to participate since we had to compete against opponents who were nearly 20 years older.

Today, Minh Tan and I, two brothers, are very happy to have won the 50+ Open category together. It's especially special that in the final we beat Jih Shian Yeo, the athlete who once held the highest score in Asia.

I highly appreciate the professional, clear, and punctual organization of the tournament in Bali. The referees officiated very accurately and with a very polite and fair attitude. Through this tournament, we athletes have learned many valuable things."

Mr. Ly Minh Tan said: "The referees at the World Pickleball Championship officiated very well. In the final match, we were locked in a 10/10 tie with our opponent when suddenly Triet and I changed our style of play, scoring a five-point run. Noticing that the other side was a bit tense, we attacked strongly and finished the match with a score of 21/12."

"Our journey in this tournament shows that in the 50+ Open category, Vietnam is not afraid of anyone. In most matches, we finished with superior scores, thanks to the quick reflexes and dexterity that are characteristic of Vietnamese athletes."

This was a very successful tournament for the Amakirk Vietnam team, with all 5 athletes winning valuable medals. In addition to the 2 gold medals in the 35+ Open and 50+ Open categories, the Amakirk Vietnam team also won a silver medal in the 19+ (4.5) category by Le Minh/Le Tho and a silver medal by Nguyen Minh Thao in the 35+ (4.5) category.

The two brothers, Ly Minh Triet and Ly Minh Tan, were both members of the expert council for the 1st Youth Pickleball Tournament - 2024 VINFAST Cup, which took place at the La Piko complex (Lan Anh Club) last July, with 250 matches and 310 participating athletes.

The World Pickleball Championship (WPC) was the first pickleball tournament in history to offer a $100,000 cash prize, held in Punta Gorda, Florida, USA, in December 2019. Based on the 2019 Global Pickleball Rankings (GPR), this was the final invitational tournament of the year, with only the top 16 players invited to participate.

Later, WPC evolved into the WPC Series, connecting the world's best players of the past with the best players currently living outside the US, through a series of 12 tournaments in the Asia Pacific region (8 in Asia and 4 in Australia) including Vietnam, South Korea, China, India, Oceania, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Sydney...

All players will receive GPR ranking points for each event they participate in. Players participating at skill level 5.0 will receive ranking points as well as a ranking called "Race to Carmelia," giving the top 20 players/teams the chance to automatically qualify for the finals, which will be held from January 14-19, 2025 at Carmelina Beach Resort in Vietnam.
