Just over a year after officially entering the electric motorcycle market in Vietnam, Honda has continuously adjusted its sales policies for its "pioneering" ICON e: electric motorcycle model. While the initial launch (April 2025) drew attention due to its relatively high price compared to its target customer group, the actual cost of ownership has now decreased significantly thanks to a series of promotional programs from the manufacturer.
Specifically, according to the latest promotional program from Honda Vietnam, valid from mid-May to the end of July 2026, customers purchasing the Honda ICON e will receive a direct cash discount of 5 million VND, along with an installment plan with interest rates starting from 0.55% per month. With this offer, the actual price of Honda's popular electric scooter is now only around 16 million VND, significantly lower than when it was first launched.

The reason for this actual price is that, earlier in April 2026, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer adjusted the list price of the ICON e: downwards. Specifically, the reduction amounted to nearly 6 million VND, applied to all versions, bringing the price of the ICON e: down from approximately 26-27 million VND to just over 20 million VND. At the same time, Honda also changed its battery policy to reduce the initial cost pressure for users.
Combining both price adjustments, the actual amount consumers need to spend to own a Honda ICON e: has now dropped significantly compared to the initial launch. In the context of an increasingly competitive electric motorcycle market, Honda's continuous concessions are seen as a signal that the Japanese manufacturer is having to change its approach to the mainstream electric motorcycle segment.
In reality, despite possessing a strong brand and a widespread dealer network, the Honda ICON e: still faced numerous obstacles when entering the Vietnamese electric motorcycle market. This model was positioned to target students or urban users needing a means of short-distance travel. However, at the time of its launch, the price of the ICON e: was considered not truly attractive compared to many competitors already on the market.

Besides the selling price, the battery leasing model is also a factor that many users consider. For many years, the majority of Vietnamese customers have been accustomed to "buying outright" the vehicle and battery instead of paying additional monthly fees. This has led to lingering concerns about long-term costs, especially among young customers or parents buying vehicles for their children to use for school.
Meanwhile, the mainstream electric motorcycle market is no longer the "experimental zone" it was a few years ago. Many brands have intensified competition with more accessible pricing, coupled with direct battery sales policies or aggressive incentives. This puts considerable pressure on new entrants to the race, including major brands like Honda.
Furthermore, electric motorcycle users in Vietnam are becoming increasingly pragmatic. Beyond brand, customers are paying more attention to the total cost of use, the ease of battery replacement, and the convenience of charging. This is why many manufacturers are constantly offering promotions to stimulate demand, instead of just competing on technology or design.

From a market perspective, Honda's continuous adjustments to the price and policies for the ICON e: suggest that the Japanese automaker seems to be prioritizing expanding its customer base over maintaining profit margins in the initial phase. This is also a strategy that many electric vehicle brands have adopted to quickly increase product coverage before the market enters a more fiercely competitive phase.
The Honda ICON e uses a 1.5 kW electric motor. The vehicle can reach a top speed of approximately 48 km/h and can travel over 70 km on a single full charge, according to the manufacturer. This model uses a lithium-ion battery, which fully charges in about 8 hours, and is equipped with several convenient features such as a USB charging port, storage compartment, and CBS braking system.
