After decades of not seeing rammed earth houses, the Ha Nhi people at the border junction of Sin Thau commune have "reunited" with their traditional architecture.

The only rammed earth house in the westernmost part of the country has been restored in A Pa Chai village, Sin Thau commune, Muong Nhe district ( Dien Bien ). The owner of the house is Mr. Ly Xuyen Phu, a person with great passion for the cultural values of the Ha Nhi ethnic group.

According to Mr. Phu, in the past, the Ha Nhi people often lived in houses made of rammed earth like this. However, over the years, the tradition has gradually faded away. Based on that reality, Mr. Phu decided to restore the traditional house model of his people.

To complete the project, 14 workers had to work continuously for 2 weeks in the traditional way.

The walls of a rammed earth house are 60-70cm thick. This ensures that people inside always feel cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

The ruler is used to measure right angles to ensure accurate construction.

The roof is thatched with thatch. This grass is also carefully selected.

The rammed earth house has a fairly simple structure. Inside the center is a large fireplace for the whole family to gather around during breaks.

Meritorious artisan Po Dan Xinh and police officers of Sin Thau commune visited the only remaining rammed earth house of A Pa Chai.

According to Mr. Xinh, restoring the traditional house of the Ha Nhi people helps the next generations better understand the traditions of their ancestors.

The house is also decorated by the owner with corn after harvest according to the tradition of the Ha Nhi people.

A sample of traditional women's clothing is displayed in the house.

Currently, the house is used for both traditional education and business in the homestay model.

“After successfully restoring this house and receiving the approval and support of many tourists, I will continue to restore more and am willing to help other Ha Nhi families to meet the needs of local tourism development,” said Mr. Ly Xuyen Phu.
