Vu Dinh Hao came to Quang Tan commune by chance after having explored many places and areas in the eastern districts of Quang Ninh province. At the end of 2023, He decided to stop at Sec Long Min village, Quang Tan commune to invest in commercial sturgeon farming. Initially, he built 5 submerged tanks to raise sturgeon.
Up to now, after nearly 2 years, he has mastered the technique and successfully raised commercial sturgeon. He continues to invest in 86 more floating tanks to raise sturgeon, including 80 floating tanks to raise fingerlings to supply to people in Sapa for commercial farming and 6 floating tanks to raise commercial sturgeon to increase capacity and annual sales output. With this floating tank farming model, it has brought high efficiency in raising cold water fish in Quang Tan and easily controlled adverse factors for livestock.
Mr. Vu Dinh Hao shared: Compared to the sunken tank I have invested in advance, now, the application of high technology to fish farming is an inevitable trend because it not only saves costs but also is convenient in the process of installation, construction and cleaning of the tank. A very simple example is that when you want to move the location of the fish tank to another place, with a submerged tank it is almost impossible to do because it is built permanently. But with this floating tank technology, when you want to move, you just need to have the worker conveniently disassemble it and move it to a new location for reinstallation, then continue farming.
From the first successful individual raising commercial sturgeon in Quang Tan commune, Mr. Vu Dinh Hao has now established the Sec Long Min Sturgeon Cooperative with 7 members to develop and expand the sturgeon farming profession in the commune. This July, he transferred the breed to 6 floating tanks with each tank having a volume of 1,000m3 to raise commercial sturgeon and it is expected that from now until next year, the Cooperative will supply the market with 20-30 tons of commercial sturgeon and the source of sturgeon fry will also reach 500,000-700,000.
Mr. Dinh Huu Long, Economic Department of Quang Tan Commune, said: Regarding the cold-water sturgeon farming model of Mr. Vu Dinh Hao, in the past, during the development process, the locality always accompanied and supported to expand the farming model and the administrative procedures to upgrade to become the Sec Long Min Sturgeon Cooperative. This is a very successful cold-water aquaculture model and is the first and only model in the commune up to now. In Quang Tan, people mainly work in agriculture and forestry.
With this model of raising cold-water sturgeon using floating tank technology, it has opened up a new direction in economic development in the area, contributing to continuing to increase income for the people. Local people also want the Sec Long Min Sturgeon Cooperative to take the lead in providing technical support and guiding the transfer of farming processes to the people. Especially now in the commune, there are many areas with cold-water sources from the headwater forest, which are very potential for local people to develop aquaculture, gradually breaking the monoculture of cinnamon and acacia trees.
Since the beginning of the year, the Sec Long Min Sturgeon Cooperative has supplied 100,000 sturgeon fry to the Sapa market and from now until the end of the year, nearly 10 tons of commercial sturgeon will be sold. Bold in his thinking and thinking, the young man born in 1995, Vu Dinh Hao, Director of the Sec Long Min Sturgeon Cooperative, has not only succeeded in raising cold-water sturgeon in Quang Tan but also innovated and applied floating tank technology for farming. Thereby, not only reducing investment costs but also increasing capacity and scale of economic efficiency of local aquaculture .
