Pressure on examiners to grade 500 papers a day without mistakes for the 2025 high school exam
Examiner pressure: Marking 500 papers/day still cannot make mistakes for the 2025 high school exam

How is the 2025 high school graduation exam graded?

Marking essay test (Literature)

According to the examination regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), the essay test in Literature is graded on a 10-point scale, with the odd points of the total score rounded to two decimal places. The grading process includes the following steps:

Dot two independent rounds:

Each exam is marked by two examiners from two different marking teams, ensuring independence.

First marking: The examiner does not write anything on the test or the test bag. The component scores, total score and comments are recorded on a separate marking sheet for each test.

Second marking: The test packets are drawn to ensure that they are not returned to the examiner who marked the first time. The examiner records the scores directly on the test and the marking sheet.

Third dot (if needed):

If the total score or component score between two markings differs by more than 1.5 points (except in cases of mistaken addition of points), the test will be marked a third time directly on the test to unify the score.

If the three scores differ by a maximum of 2.5 points, the official score is the average of the three scores.

If the difference is more than 2.5 points, the chief examiner will organize a joint marking with all examiners in the essay marking group to give the final score.

Marking multiple choice tests

Multiple choice tests are graded entirely by machine, using specialized software provided by the Ministry of Education and Training . The process includes:

Scanning and scoring: All test answer sheets of candidates are scanned and scored automatically by software, from the scanning step to exporting the test scores of each candidate.

Data storage and comparison: After marking, the score data is saved on two CDs. One CD is sent to the Ministry of Education and Training, the other CD is kept at the examination council for score entry and comparison, ensuring accuracy before announcing the results.

Ensuring seriousness in grading the 2025 high school graduation exam

Faced with concerns about the possibility of "laxity" in grading exams due to the merger of provinces and cities, Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Department of Quality Management of the Ministry of Education and Training, affirmed at a press conference after the 2025 high school graduation exam:

The exam marking work will begin on June 28, instead of waiting until July 1, according to the plan of the local exam steering committees.

The Ministry of Education and Training has issued a document providing detailed instructions on each step of exam grading, anticipating problems that may arise when localities implement a two-level government.

The Ministry's inspection team worked with localities and received commitments to strictly follow regulations, grade exams seriously, and ensure the announcement of exam results on July 16.

Professor Chuong emphasized: “Only senior managers have made adjustments, but all the teachers and exam locations remain unchanged. Therefore, we can be completely assured and not worry about affecting professional activities.”
