The low pressure system has strengthened into a tropical depression.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this afternoon (September 16), the low-pressure area in the sea east of Luzon Island (Philippines) has strengthened into a tropical depression.

At 13:00, the center of the tropical depression was located at approximately 15.3 degrees North latitude and 123.7 degrees East longitude, over the sea east of Luzon Island. The strongest winds near the center of the tropical depression were at force 6-7 (39-61 km/h), with gusts up to force 9. It was moving in a North-Northwest direction at a speed of about 15 km/h.

Forecasts indicate that by 13:00 on September 17th, the tropical depression will move in a North-Northwest direction at a speed of approximately 15 km/h and has the potential to strengthen into a typhoon. The sea area northeast of Luzon Island will experience winds of force 8, gusting to force 10.

By 13:00 on September 18th, the tropical depression was moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of approximately 15-20 km/h, with the potential to enter the East Sea. Winds of force 8, gusting to force 10, were observed in the northeastern part of the North East Sea. The level of natural disaster risk was level 3.

Over the next 48 to 72 hours, the storm will move mainly in a west-northwest direction, traveling at approximately 15 km per hour, with little change in intensity.

Forecasts indicate that on the night of September 16th and throughout September 17th, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the northern, central, and southern areas of the South China Sea (including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa special zones), the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from southern Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang , and the Gulf of Thailand. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind (level 6-7), and waves exceeding 2 meters in height. In the northern and central areas of the South China Sea, winds will be strong (level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 8), with waves 2-3 meters high; the sea will be rough.

From the night of September 17th, the northeastern part of the North East Sea will experience increasingly strong winds, reaching level 6, gusting to level 8; near the storm's center, winds will be strong at levels 7-8, gusting to level 10, with waves reaching 2.5 - 4.5 meters in height; the sea will be very rough.

Vessels operating in the aforementioned hazardous areas are susceptible to the effects of thunderstorms, tornadoes, strong winds, and high waves.

Heavy rain is expected from Hue city to Lam Dong and the Southern region.
