Currently, iPhones and many Android smartphones are water-resistant and meet certain standards that allow them to be rated IP68. However, phone manufacturers do not provide warranty coverage for water-related damage.

Apple states that the iPhone 15 series is water-resistant to a depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes. That's certainly higher than the IP68 standard, but it doesn't mean you can take your iPhone 15 into the bathtub, run it under the shower, or take it diving with you unless it's in a specialized waterproof case. If something goes wrong, the warranty will be voided.
According to PhoneArena , a new patent granted last week by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office shows that Apple is developing a new version of the iPhone that can operate underwater.

The new patent, titled "Underwater User Interface," also mentions Apple adjusting the iOS platform for easier use when the iPhone is underwater. An illustration in the patent shows that iPhone users can zoom the camera by pressing the volume button instead of using the touchscreen.

If Apple releases a truly waterproof iPhone, hopefully it will come with a warranty covering water damage. It's still unclear when a waterproof iPhone will be released, but if this becomes a reality, it would be a fantastic feature to attract users.
