Armenia buys Iranian 'UAV killer' system.

GD&TĐ - Photos that appeared online on May 26th show that Armenia has purchased several Majid short-range air defense systems from Iran.

These photos were taken during a rehearsal in the capital Yerevan, in preparation for the first Republic Day parade on May 28th. Four artillery systems can be seen in the photos.

The Majid missile, first introduced by Iran in 2021, is designed to destroy UAVs, cruise missiles, helicopters, and other low-moving targets in all weather conditions.

The Iranian version of the system is based on the Aras 2 pickup truck, while the version delivered to Armenia appears to be based on the commercially available Iveco Daily model.

This system includes an electro-optical target acquisition system with a detection range of up to 15km, along with 4 launchers equipped with AD-08 missiles.

The AD-08 missile uses an infrared imaging seeker with a proximity fuse. It is capable of striking targets at a maximum range of 8km and an altitude of up to 6km.

The main advantage of this system is that it is completely passive, meaning it cannot be detected by electronic intelligence means, unlike air defense systems that use radar for detection or guidance.

According to numerous reports, the Majid system performed very well in the recent US-Israel war against Iran.

This system is credited with shooting down dozens of US and Israeli combat drones, as well as cruise missiles and other weapons.

In recent years, Armenia has purchased a large amount of weapons, including several air defense systems, from India and France.

Armenia's recent arms deals may be aimed at restoring military balance with Azerbaijan.

However, with far greater financial resources, Azerbaijan is likely to maintain a qualitatively superior military advantage.
