In the women's heavyweight quadruple sculls event at the 19th Asian Games , the four girls Thu Hien, Luong Thi Thao, Nguyen Thi Giang, and Pham Thi Thao are aiming for a medal in the final taking place this morning.
In the qualifying round, the Vietnamese team's time was 7 minutes 2.11 seconds, finishing third, but still quite far behind the two leading teams, China (6 minutes 43.94 seconds) and Iran (6 minutes 55.02 seconds). Therefore, maintaining third place and securing another bronze medal is a reasonable goal for the team in the final race.
Besides the women's quadruple heavyweight double sculls event, Vietnamese rowing also competed in the finals of two other events: women's single heavyweight double sculls and men's quadruple heavyweight double sculls. However, Vietnam's chances of competing in these two events are quite low.
Meanwhile, shooting will feature four finals today, including the men's 10m moving target (individual and team) and the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol (individual and team).
Vietnam's medal hopes in shooting rest on the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol event, with top shooter Ha Minh Thanh . However, this is an extremely difficult task as he faces formidable opponents from China, South Korea, and India. Similarly, the men's 10m moving target event is consistently dominated by shooters from China, North Korea, and Kazakhstan. Vietnam isn't completely hopeless, but they can only realistically aim for a bronze medal.
Judo has three events reaching the finals today, but Vietnam's chances are slim. In contrast, taekwondo offers much more hope after winning a bronze medal on the first day. Besides the mixed team poomsae, martial artist Truong Thi Kim Tuyen is expected to win a medal in the women's 49kg sparring event. However, with the presence of world and Olympic champion Wongpattanakit Panipak from Thailand, Tuyen's chances of winning gold are extremely difficult.
Swimming, fencing, and wushu are also sports in which Vietnamese athletes are participating, with finals in several events taking place today.
