On the morning of November 18, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO) jointly organized the Romesh Chandra Award Ceremony to Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Honorary President of the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation (now the Vietnam Peace and Development Council) for her great contributions to the cause of international peace and solidarity.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Pallab Sengupta, Secretary of the National Council of the Communist Party of India, President of the World Peace Council, Member of the Presidium of AIPSO emphasized that Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh is one of the most inspirational figures in the global movement for peace, independence and social justice. Her name has shone brightly in the history of Vietnam's heroic struggle.
Madame Nguyen Thi Binh was also a key negotiator for the Provisional Revolutionary Government at the Paris Peace Conference. She demonstrated the courage and dignity of Vietnamese women to the world, speaking up not only for the aspirations of the Vietnamese people but also for all those who fought against imperialism and for peace.
"Today, AIPSO is honored to honor Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh for her great contributions to the cause of international peace and solidarity. On behalf of AIPSO and the peace-loving people of India, I would like to extend my warm greetings to Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, an outstanding daughter of Vietnam, a global symbol of peace and dignity. Here, we also celebrate the strong friendship between the people of India and Vietnam, forged by common struggles and strengthened by mutual respect," Mr. Pallab Sengupta emphasized.
Expressing her sincere and deep gratitude to AIPSO, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh said that this was not only AIPSO's recognition of her personally, but also an assessment and honor for the joint efforts of those working in people's diplomacy of the Vietnam Peace Committee and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations.
"I am very honored and moved to receive the Romesh Chandra Peace Prize, the prize named after the world's outstanding peace fighter, who devoted his life to the international peace movement, against war, promoting justice and fostering solidarity and friendship among nations. I sincerely thank you, comrades, who have always accompanied and stood side by side with the Vietnamese people in the cause of peace and friendship among nations," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh.
Also on November 18, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and AIPSO jointly organized the Romesh Chandra Award Ceremony to Mr. Uong Chu Luu, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee; Mr. Tran Dac Loi, former Deputy Standing Committee of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation (now the Vietnam Peace and Development Council) for their outstanding contributions to building and promoting the international peace and solidarity movement.
Thanking AIPSO for its trust and recognition, Mr. Uong Chu Luu said that receiving the Romesh Chandra Peace Prize is not only a great honor and source of encouragement for him personally, but also a profound reminder of the responsibility that each person must shoulder in the present era, when peace is facing serious challenges from war, conflict, inequality and violence.
Mr. Uong Chu Luu also affirmed that in the coming time, the Vietnam Peace Committee will steadfastly carry out its mission. Continue to promote people-to-people diplomacy activities, foster friendship and solidarity between the Vietnamese people and international friends, and at the same time actively contribute to the common efforts of the international community to build a civilized, fair and sustainably developed world.
The Romesh Chandra Award, established by AIPSO, is named after Romesh Chandra, Honorary President of the World Peace Council, a shining symbol of the international peace movement, a staunch warrior who devoted his life to the ideals of peace, anti-imperialism and friendship among peoples.
Mr. Romesh Chandra is also a loyal friend, always standing side by side with the Vietnamese people, actively mobilizing progressive movements and peace-loving forces around the world to support the struggle for independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people.
The Romesh Chandra Peace Prize was established to commemorate the life and career of Mr. Romesh Chandra, honor his extraordinary contributions to the international peace movement; honor individuals and organizations with outstanding contributions in promoting peace, strengthening international solidarity, recognizing the dedication and tireless efforts of peace activists, inspiring future generations to continue to contribute, spreading the noble values of peace, independence, freedom and friendship among nations./.
