Bac Ninh province, the largest lychee-growing region in the country, is entering its lychee harvest season. Although this year's yield is lower, it still exceeds 95,000 tons, and the quality of the lychees is the highest ever. This is thanks to strict management of the growing areas, strengthened linkages, and innovative marketing strategies.
Strict management of the growing area.
Bac Ninh province is famous for its diverse and abundant fruit trees, with many distinctive and potentially exportable agricultural products reaching numerous markets... Among them is the lychee fruit - a characteristic fruit of Vietnam with a long history of development. Lychee is a key agricultural product in the agricultural economic development of Bac Ninh province, establishing a renowned brand both domestically and internationally...

Leaders of the Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee visited and inspected lychee orchards, focusing on managing and controlling planting area codes and completing the necessary conditions to ensure export standards.
With the aim of improving the quality and value of lychee fruit in all stages of production, processing, packaging, and consumption, immediately after the end of the 2025 lychee season, Bac Ninh province focused on preparing for the 2026 lychee season. This year, Bac Ninh province maintains a total lychee cultivation area of approximately 29,800 hectares, of which early-season lychees account for 8,200 hectares (27.5%) and main-season lychees account for 21,600 hectares (72.5%). Besides the advantages and experience inherited from previous seasons, this year's lychee season has faced many difficulties and challenges, especially unfavorable weather conditions. In the spirit of reducing production without reducing value, Bac Ninh province has proactively directed and organized production. Following the directives of central ministries and agencies, Bac Ninh province has promoted the application of science and technology in production, expanded the area of cultivation according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; and focused on value chain linkages... Production steering committees have been established to regularly monitor, strengthen technical guidance, control pests and diseases, and use pesticides safely.

In its directives, emphasis is placed on managing and controlling planting area codes, and improving conditions to ensure export standards. Mr. Dang Van Tang, Head of the Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department of Bac Ninh province, stated: "Bac Ninh province has regularly monitored and strengthened technical guidance on pest and disease control. Specialized staff are assigned to each planting area code to review all conditions. For codes that do not meet the requirements, a period of time is given for rectification. For codes that cannot be rectified, resolute action is taken to revoke them to ensure compliance with the importing country's requirements."
This year, Bac Ninh province continues to maintain 17,500 hectares of lychee orchards producing according to VietGAP standards, accounting for over 58% of the total area; and has expanded the area certified under GlobalGAP standards to over 250 hectares. The entire province has more than 240 registered growing areas, covering over 17,000 hectares, and 42 packaging facilities that have been granted codes, ensuring they meet the requirements for export to various markets. Besides the close guidance of specialized agencies and local authorities, lychee growers have also been very conscious in caring for their orchards; proactively applying intensive farming methods, applying advanced techniques to production, and constantly innovating and searching for new varieties with higher yields and better quality.
In the Phuc Hoa lychee-growing region, a few years ago, the family of Mr. Ngo Van Cuong in Quat Du 2 village introduced the U Trung lychee variety into production. This is a new variety, with fruits nearly twice the size of the normal variety, about 15-17 fruits per kilogram, thick flesh, a distinctive sweet taste, and especially a guaranteed selling price of 150,000 VND/kg at the farm. Mr. Cuong shared: "This year, more than 100 lychee trees in my family yielded over 2 tons of fruit, which were pre-ordered by customers and have now been harvested completely, resulting in high efficiency. Caring for this type of lychee is not difficult; the important thing is to strictly adhere to the production process."

Residents of Nam Duong and Phuc Hoa communes in Bac Ninh province are excitedly harvesting early lychees.
A new feature of this year's lychee harvest is that Bac Ninh province has selected 143 beautiful lychee orchards across 15 communes and wards. These orchards, each approximately 1 hectare in size, boast high yields, excellent quality, and attractive appearance. Importantly, they adhere to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, or organic standards, absolutely avoiding the use of banned pesticides. The growing areas ensure traceability, maintain detailed care logs, and feature beautiful landscapes. This has opened up a new direction for localities in integrating tourism. As a result, even before the peak season, these beautiful lychee orchards have already attracted a large number of tourists for visits and experiences.
Promoting multi-channel, multi-market sales.
In terms of sales promotion, Bac Ninh province has issued early directives with many new directions compared to previous seasons. Sales promotion activities are organized in a multi-channel manner and linked to digital transformation, exploiting the advantages of e-commerce platforms. In addition to developing a sales plan early on, many working groups have been organized to combine investment promotion, economic and trade cooperation with business connections, and to promote the consumption of lychees and other key agricultural products in the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, China, etc. The Department of Industry and Trade has proactively connected trade... with many agreements in procurement, processing, consumption and logistics transportation... Right at the beginning of the early lychee harvest season, localities with lychee trees have also organized many activities to promote the growing areas and spread the value of lychees with many creative and unique forms such as: Visiting beautiful lychee orchards; Gala welcoming the early lychee season; Auctioning the ancestral lychee tree; Connecting tourism routes... Livestream sessions were also organized, including those featuring the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee along with a large team of TikTokers, attracting a large number of viewers and extensively promoting Bac Ninh's lychee growing region on digital platforms.

In addition to traditional markets, new markets will be explored. In recent days, despite it being the beginning of the season, consumption has been very favorable, with lychees being purchased at high prices... Long-standing difficulties and obstacles have been overcome, especially with the US approval of the Hanoi Irradiation Center as qualified to irradiate fresh fruit for export to this demanding market, opening up great opportunities to expand the market for lychees in the United States.

Ribbon-cutting ceremony to promote lychee. This year, Bac Ninh province expects to have approximately 60% of its lychee production consumed domestically and 40% exported.
To facilitate consumption, Bac Ninh province has also directed the Department of Industry and Trade to coordinate with relevant sectors to maintain permanent teams at the Lang Son and Lao Cai border gates to coordinate in resolving obstacles when exporting lychees to China – a traditional market for lychees. Bac Ninh province will create the most favorable conditions in terms of administrative procedures; optimize logistics infrastructure and warehousing; and closely coordinate with relevant agencies and the Chinese side to establish priority "green lanes" to help expedite customs clearance at key border gates. At a recent conference promoting lychee consumption in the province, the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, as well as the governments of Hekou County, Pingxiang City, and Chongzuo City in China, all affirmed that they will create the most favorable conditions for the customs clearance of imported lychees.

Chinese businesses visited and signed contracts to purchase lychees.
In recent days, despite it being the first lychee harvest season, the market has been very active. Farmers are delighted because of the high selling prices. In addition to the domestic market, early lychees have also reached foreign markets.
