Bac Ninh: Floodwaters in affected communes are receding rapidly.

According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Ninh province, the water level in the upper reaches of the rivers is currently receding, and the water is also draining rapidly in the flooded communes.

Specifically, on the Cau River, at K0 of the left embankment (formerly Hoa Son commune), the water level has receded rapidly by 4.5m; at K9+400 (Dai Mao village area - Hop Thinh commune), it has receded by 3.5m; and at K32+200 (at Dong Xuyen bridge), it has receded by 2.5m. At Phuc Loc Phuong, the water level is receding rapidly and is below alert level 3, and at Dap Cau, it has also fallen below alert level 3.

On the Thuong River, at Km0 of the right bank dike (Cua Song village), the water level has decreased by 1.8m compared to the peak flood level. The Da Mai sluice gate was opened at 7 PM on October 11th, and the water level in the fields and Lai Nghien canal has dropped by 12 cm. At the Duc Mai sluice gate, the water level in the fields has dropped by about 1m (in residential areas, the water level is still about 1.5m), and the difference in water level between the fields and the river is about 70cm, so the water drains out quickly.

Currently, in the flooded villages and residential areas (including Tien Luc, My Thai, Da Mai, Tan Dinh, Bac Lung, Lang Giang, Viet Yen, Van Ha, Hop Thinh, Dong Ky, Yen The, and Bo Ha communes), the water is still receding, and the inter-village and inter-commune roads in some communes of Dong Ky, Yen The, Bo Ha, and Hop Thinh are now open. Some households in higher areas have returned to clean up.

The flooding situation in the Lai Nghien canal, Da Mai ward, has decreased by about 30 cm compared to 5 PM on October 11th. Currently, the difference in water level between the fields and the river at the Da Mai sluice gate is 20 cm. Water has receded in the North-South railway area and some sections of national and provincial roads, and is no longer overflowing onto the roads.

At the Duc Mai sluice gate (in My Thai commune), the water level in the fields has dropped by about 1 meter, with a difference of about 70 cm between the water level in the fields and the river, so the water is draining out quickly. However, the area in the fields is still flooded to a depth of about 1.5-1.8 meters.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Ninh province requested the People's Committees of the flooded communes to urgently direct efforts to overcome the damage caused by rain and floods, quickly ensure the stability of life for households whose houses were damaged and to help them return to their homes after relocation; and to urgently repair damaged schools to ensure that students' education is not interrupted.

According to Mr. Dang Cong Huong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Ninh province, the water levels in the river banks are currently receding, but the risk of landslides remains very high. The People's Committees of communes and wards along the Cau and Thuong rivers are coordinating closely with dike management forces to strengthen patrols and guard the dikes to promptly handle any dike-related incidents such as seepage, landslides, and damage to culverts under the dikes. At the same time, they are preparing sufficient personnel and equipment to implement the "four on-the-spot" approach; continuing to review and compile damage statistics; and developing plans to repair damaged infrastructure and facilities affected by the floods.
