On May 22, at Kinh Bac Cultural Center, the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province held a conference to deploy the collection of DNA samples of relatives of unidentified martyrs.
Attending the conference were leaders of Bac Ninh province, representatives of the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order (C06), Ministry of Public Security , leaders of departments, branches, localities and representatives of relatives of unidentified martyrs.
According to statistics, the country still has about 200,000 martyrs' remains that have not been collected, scattered in the southern provinces, Laos and Cambodia; more than 300,000 martyrs' remains have been collected and buried in cemeteries but lack information.
Recently, Bac Ninh Provincial Police have actively coordinated with relevant agencies to review and update information on 6,286 martyrs whose graves have not been identified, and information on remains of 12,572 relatives who need to collect DNA samples in the province.
Of these, Department C06 will support the collection of DNA samples for 118 cases of martyrs' biological mothers, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and relatives of 63 unidentified martyrs; for 12,454 cases of martyrs' relatives, the locality will provide funding for implementation.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province Ngo Tan Phuong affirmed that the policy of conducting DNA analysis for all relatives of martyrs whose information has not been identified to create a large database of DNA of martyrs' relatives to compare and search for information on the remains of unidentified martyrs is a meaningful act, demonstrating the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "Repaying gratitude" of the nation for the great contributions of heroic martyrs.
Emphasizing that collecting DNA samples for martyrs' relatives is a more favorable start in the journey to find and identify martyrs as soon as possible, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Tan Phuong requested the Department of Home Affairs, Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities, especially communes and wards, to continue to pay attention to directing functional units to closely coordinate with the Police in collecting and updating information on martyrs' relatives, effectively serving the work of collecting DNA samples, enriching data, and adding to the gene bank of unidentified martyrs.
The Department of Home Affairs coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Ninh province and the Provincial Police to advise the Provincial People's Committee to mobilize resources, speed up sample collection for the remaining cases, and strive to complete the identification of 6,286 martyrs in the province as soon as possible.
On this occasion, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Tan Phuong and provincial leaders presented 72 gifts to representatives of unidentified martyrs' relatives who participated in sample collection.
GeneStory Joint Stock Company organized sample collection for 72 cases who are relatives of 26 martyrs right in the hall. For the remaining cases, due to health conditions of martyrs' relatives who cannot travel, the unit will organize sample collection at home./.
