On August 27, Dr. Ngo Thi Thu Thao, Department of Dentistry, Quang Nam General Hospital, said that she had removed more than 100 maggots from an open wound in the mouth of patient PTT (69 years old, residing in Tien Phuoc commune, Da Nang city).
Previously, patient T. was admitted to the hospital with difficulty breathing. At first, the doctor discovered a nest of wriggling maggots in the mucosa of the upper lip.
After carefully examining the open wound, the doctor discovered necrosis in the gingival sulcus, right cheek mucosa, palate, and discovered many more maggot nests located deep inside the muscle, close to the upper jaw bone, right cheekbone, and hidden mucosa inside the right lower jaw bone.
