Nguyen Xien Street is part of Ring Road 3, a major thoroughfare in Hanoi . This road is known for its bustling atmosphere, concentration of businesses, and heavy traffic, especially during peak hours.
However, for about a month now, an unauthorized garbage dump has sprung up right next to Nguyen Xien Street. Waste, ranging from household waste to construction debris, fabric scraps, and sofa parts, spills onto the road. Whenever it rains, the garbage mixes with rainwater, creating a breeding ground for flies and gnats, detracting from the urban landscape and posing a potential traffic safety hazard.
Reporters from Vietnam Law Newspaper observed that on the afternoon of June 27th, the open-air garbage dump emitted a strong, foul odor in the area stretching 100 meters from alley 300 on Nguyen Xien Street towards the intersection of Nguyen Xien and Chu Van An Boulevard.
Ms. Nguyen Thi T., a vendor in the area, said: "For about a month now, I've noticed the amount of trash here increasing. During the day, when I'm selling goods here, I don't see anyone dumping trash, but the next day there's even more. This roadside has become a garbage dump without me even realizing it."
Notably, the stretch of road that the reporter observed has repeatedly become an illegal dumping ground. This has been going on from 2023 to the present. The road is cleaned up for a while, but then it immediately becomes an illegal garbage collection point again.
