Glorious tradition

As a key strategic area in the northeast of the capital, Military Region 3 plays the role of a "steel shield" protecting the political center of the whole country. In the Military Region, there is a large sea and island area; there are islands, rocky beaches, large seaports such as Cat Ba, Bach Long Vi, Cua Luc, Cam Pha, Hon Gai, Do Son which are very important for coastal defense, protecting the sovereignty of the sea, islands and continental shelf in the north of the Fatherland. This is also a key economic area with many industrial parks, seaports, and key national economic zones. In terms of military and defense, Military Region 3 is a sensitive area, greatly affecting the sovereignty and security of the whole country.

During the 80-year journey of building, fighting and developing, promoting the tradition of "Solidarity, initiative, creativity, sacrifice, victory", the armed forces of Military Region 3 have achieved outstanding feats, contributing worthily to the revolutionary cause of the nation.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Duc Hung, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Military Region 3, said that the special thing is that in the fierce war situation and the early days of national reunification, the Party Committee and Command of Military Region 3 soon focused on economic development, infrastructure construction, and the goal of "rich people, strong country". The "5-ton homelands" of Thai Binh , Nam Ha, Hai Hung... and many other localities have ensured that "not a pound of rice is missing, not a soldier is missing" for the front line.

Military Region 3 is an area that excellently performs the three functions of the army: the fighting army - the working army - the labor and production army. In 1976, the Party Committee and the Military Region Command, with General Nguyen Quyet as Political Commissar and Commander, launched the movement "Reaching out to the East Sea, getting rich, winning".

In 10 years (1976-1985), the army and people of Military Region 3 reclaimed 55,468 hectares of sea, built a road to Dinh Vu peninsula, a road across Cat Hai and Cat Ba islands, contributing to changing the economic face of the island district, strengthening the defense capability in key areas. The Military Region was also the place that early proposed the policy of developing household economy, "unleashing" the production force, bringing the country's economy to achieve outstanding achievements, and was recognized as the leading flag of the entire army in realizing the goal of "Getting rich, winning".

Stick to reality, complete the task

The practice of building and developing Military Region 3 with rich experiences is the foundation for the logistics and engineering sector of the Military Region to excellently complete its tasks in the new situation. Major General Luong Van Kiem, Commander of Military Region 3, commented that the Logistics and Engineering Department of Military Region 3 always proactively promotes internal strength, fully and promptly ensures training tasks and combat readiness.

According to Colonel Nguyen Duc Huy, Head of the Logistics and Technical Department of Military Region 3, during the 2023 Military Region Defense Exercise, the logistics and technical department completed the progress and quality of construction of the logistics and technical base with 86 works of all kinds; produced hundreds of kilograms of dry food, thousands of cans of meat; ensured food, rest, and absolute safety for the forces; ensured the quality of guns, artillery, optical equipment, tanks and armored vehicles, and cars; provided more than 100 tons of ammunition with an explosion rate of 97.36% or more..., which was highly appreciated by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense.

During the Covid-19 epidemic prevention period, the industry has ensured barracks, food, accommodation and medical care conditions at 9 concentrated quarantine areas; transported more than 30,000 citizens entering the country to quarantine areas and transported 21 million doses of vaccines, 50,000 tons of medical supplies to serve epidemic prevention; mobilized 151 cadres, doctors and nurses and purchased 10 essential goods worth more than 3.2 billion VND to support southern provinces in fighting the epidemic.

To effectively carry out search and rescue missions, the logistics and engineering sector has advised the Party Committee and the Military Region 3 Command to mobilize equipment, supplies, vehicles, fuel, food, provisions, etc. for units in vulnerable areas and key areas; ready to deploy according to the "4 on-the-spot" motto close to reality.

Performing the function of "labor and production army", the industry proactively advises the Party Committee and the Military Region Command to lead and direct units to promote production and production, and reasonably change crop structure; organize well the work of feeding soldiers; put agricultural products into soldiers' meals at prices 5 to 10% lower than the market price at the same time; 100% of barracks have enough equipment and use clean water for daily life.

Military medical units have proactively monitored and prevented epidemics, ensuring food hygiene and safety for soldiers. Military Hospital 7 and military medical units organized periodic health check-ups for 100% of subjects, the rate of healthy soldiers reached over 99.02%; doctors were increased for units, island lines and the Combined Military-Civilian Medical Program was effective.

Every year, the Logistics and Technical Department of Military Region 3 has directed the reception, storage, distribution, and creation of adequate sources of gasoline, supplies, and equipment for combat readiness tasks, regular and unexpected tasks; organized the collection and handling of ammunition and level 5 technical equipment to ensure absolute safety; received additional and exchanged weapons and ammunition for coastal island units, border posts, militia, and self-defense forces in coastal, border, and key communes. At the same time, well organized the preservation, maintenance, repair, registration, and maintenance of technical coefficients of motorbikes, boats, and vehicles to ensure traffic order and safety in the area.

Colonel Nguyen Duc Huy said that in the coming time, the logistics and engineering sector of Military Region 3 will promote the emulation movement "The Army Logistics Sector follows Uncle Ho's teachings" and the campaign "Manage and exploit weapons and technical equipment well, durably, safely, economically and in traffic safety" associated with studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style and the Emulation Movement to Win, creating motivation for the entire sector to overcome all difficulties and complete tasks in the new situation.
