During an inspection at Tan Phu Secondary School, the authorities discovered three electric bicycles that had been tampered with. Despite frequent warnings from the school, students still violated the rules, and parents were even lax in allowing students to buy spare parts to modify their bikes.
According to regulations, electric bicycles are only allowed to run at a maximum of 25 km/h, with a power of no more than 250W and must have pedals. However, modified vehicles can reach speeds equivalent to motorbikes, while the frame and braking system are not guaranteed, potentially causing a risk of losing control and causing serious accidents.
Dong Nai Province Traffic Police said they will continue to inspect and strictly handle violations and send notices to schools. At the same time, they advise parents to strengthen management and not let their children use vehicles in a dangerous manner.
From a safe means of transport for students, electric bicycles are being transformed into a threat on the streets if there is no close coordination between families, schools and authorities.
