The smiles are back.

The floods have left behind devastating damage in Thai Nguyen province. However, amidst the destruction and ruin, the spirit of solidarity, unwavering determination, and warm human kindness have once again rekindled hope. Houses are being rebuilt, roads are being quickly cleared, and the laughter of children can be heard in schools that have just weathered the storm and floods...

Working together to overcome difficulties

The first days of classes after the devastating floods at Doi Can 1 Primary School in Phan Dinh Phung Ward have returned with a vibrant atmosphere. The sun is still shining, and the clear voices of the students echo across the schoolyard. Although the traces of the natural disaster remain, with the love of the profession, the efforts of the teachers and parents, and the cooperation of the community, the beloved school is gradually stabilizing and maintaining its teaching and learning routines. Doi Can 1 Primary School currently has 61 staff and teachers and nearly 1,400 students.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Principal of Doi Can 1 Primary School, preliminary statistics show that the entire school has 25 teachers and approximately 750 students severely affected by the recent floods. Many students are facing difficult circumstances as their homes are damaged, their belongings are swept away, or they have lost everything. Many families have had their livelihoods affected, making it difficult for their children to return to school.

Currently, the school is working closely with local authorities, social organizations, and parents to quickly stabilize teaching and learning activities, while mobilizing resources to support students severely affected by the natural disaster. The immediate goal is to help them return to school as soon as possible and continue their education in safer and more adequate conditions.

Currently, the school has mobilized 139 sets of textbooks from the shared library for grades 1 to 5. All of these books have been handed directly to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them temporarily overcome the lack of learning materials, stabilize their psychology, and feel secure in returning to their studies.

Not only was the education sector severely affected, the recent floods also had a serious impact on agricultural production in Thai Nguyen province, especially tea, the main crop and also the pride of the locality.

Currently, the province has approximately 24,000 hectares of tea plantations, of which nearly 23,000 hectares are producing tea, with an average yield of nearly 18 tons/ha. However, after the storms, many tea-growing areas were flooded and eroded, significantly affecting the growth of the plants as well as the quality of the harvested tea buds. Some newly planted tea areas are even at risk of total loss if not restored in time.

Besides causing productivity losses, natural disasters also create difficulties for many tea processing and purchasing facilities, disrupting the supply chain and significantly reducing the income of tea growers. Thousands of households that depend on tea cultivation are facing numerous challenges.

In response to this situation, authorities at all levels are urgently reviewing and compiling statistics on the damage and developing plans to support people in restoring production. The focus is on land reclamation, clearing irrigation systems, providing new seeds, and offering technical guidance on post-disaster care.

Quickly return to your normal routine.

Despite the many difficulties remaining after the natural disaster, Thai Nguyen is gradually returning to its normal rhythm of life, day by day, hour by hour. This revival stems not only from the efforts of the Party committees, government, and people, but is also fueled by the deep love for their homeland, expressed in unique ways by the younger generation.

One vivid example is the photojournalism project "Homeland Reborn" carried out by the young group Nắng Media (Phan Đình Phùng ward). Immediately after typhoon No. 11 passed, Nguyễn Ngọc, a member of the group, and his friends took their cameras and traveled throughout the affected areas to capture authentic moments.

Nguyen Ngoc shared: "Upon witnessing the devastation of our homeland after the storms and floods, my friends and I only hoped to contribute a small part. The photo series 'Homeland Reborn' not only documents the losses, but also aims to show everyone how resilient our homeland has been."

Through the language of authentic, moving, and expressive photography, the project is not only a visual document of an unforgettable period, but also a hopeful message about the resilience, solidarity, and beauty of the people of Thai Nguyen in their journey to overcome challenges.

From faces smeared with mud but eyes still shining with hope, to hands working together to clean up and rebuild homes, each frame contains a story of rebirth, not only of the material but also of the spirit.

"Homeland Reborn" is not just the title of a photo series, but has become a symbol of the enduring journey of reconstruction, where human kindness, love, and faith are the glue that binds everything together, the driving force that empowers each person to move forward. Smiles have returned not only to the children, the farmers, and the soldiers, but also to the hearts of every citizen of Thai Nguyen. Smiles of faith, solidarity, and enduring vitality in this resilient land...

From the midst of hardship, Thai Nguyen once again demonstrated the strength of its community, of the spirit of "compassion, humanity, and sharing" that has become a cultural hallmark of this land. More than the material losses, it is human kindness, resilience, and the aspiration to rise above adversity that have forged Thai Nguyen's character today. And from these losses, we see even more clearly the value of unity, faith, and love for our homeland—things that no storm or flood can sweep away.
