In recent days, the coastal waters of Tinh Khe commune, Quang Ngai province, have been filled with a bustling atmosphere and the immense joy of local fishermen as each boat has a bumper catch of sea shrimp.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh (residing in Ky Xuyen village, Tinh Khe commune), shared that normally every year, fishermen who specialize in fishing near the shore will enter two shrimp seasons, including the 3rd and 8th lunar months. “For small capacity boats like mine, we normally catch fish. When the shrimp season comes, fishermen will concentrate on sailing offshore in the near-shore waters to catch this bright red seafood,” Mr. Thanh said.
According to Mr. Thanh and his fellow sailors, in the past 3 weeks, shrimp have appeared densely in the waters near the shore. Thanks to that, almost all ships when going out to sea have achieved high productivity.
On average, 3 to 4 kg of fresh shrimp produce 1 kg of dried shrimp. Right at the wharf, traders buy fresh shrimp at prices ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 VND/kg, and dried shrimp at about 80,000 VND/kg.
Taking advantage of the abundant shrimp resources, Tinh Khe fishermen set sail from dawn and only return to shore in the evening. Many boats hit the jackpot and can earn tens of millions of dong.
"We just hope for calm weather and calm seas so we can harvest the entire crop and have more income to cover our living expenses. If there is a lot of shrimp but the sea is rough, it will be considered a bad harvest," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Don, a resident of Ky Xuyen village.
Traders are on duty on shore and ready to buy shrimp when fishermen dock.
Mr. Pham Quoc Vuong, Chairman of Tinh Khe Commune People's Committee, said that local fishermen are currently entering the shrimp season with abundant output. Shrimp are purchased by traders as soon as the boats reach shore at high prices, so all fishermen are excited.
