Hanoi: Large-scale illegal gas decanting site busted

On October 15, information from the Hanoi Market Management Department said that the market management force and Hanoi City Police had just destroyed a large-scale illegal gas filling station in the middle of Thanh Tri commune's fields, seizing tons of LPG gas and many illegal filling equipment.

After a period of grasping the situation and developing a plan to fight, the Prevention and Investigation Team of Economic Corruption and Environmental Cases in Other Fields (Team 7) - Economic Police Department, Hanoi City Police in coordination with Market Management Team No. 14 (Hanoi Market Management Department) caught red-handed illegal gas decanting activities in the Tay field area, Yen My village 2, Thanh Tri commune.

The violating facility is owned by Mr. PTG (born in 1988, residing in Thanh Tri commune). At the time of inspection, Mr. G. could not present a license or documents proving legal LPG decanting activities.

The authorities have drawn up a record and temporarily seized all the evidence showing signs of violation, including 6 LPG decanting machines, 1 10m³ tank, 55 gas cylinders, and 46 gas cylinders containing more than 837 kg of LPG. All of these evidences have no invoices or documents proving their legal origin, with a total estimated value of about 1 billion VND.

The working group sealed all the exhibits, consolidated the records, took statements to handle according to regulations.

The case continues to be investigated to determine the LPG supply source, transporter and consumption system of this facility.

According to authorities, illegal gas decanting and trading activities not only seriously violate regulations on fire safety and liquefied petroleum gas trading, but also pose the risk of causing especially serious consequences if an incident occurs.

Large capacity LPG tanks, located in open areas, lacking fire prevention and fire fighting systems, just a spark or incorrect operation can lead to fire and explosion, threatening the lives of people around.

Authorities recommend that people and businesses should only buy and use gas cylinders from licensed dealers with clear origins. At the same time, when detecting suspicious signs of illegal gas decanting or trading, it is necessary to immediately notify the police and market management for timely handling.
