On the night of October 14, at Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi), the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) received emergency international aid from the Australian Government through the Australian Embassy in Vietnam for people affected by natural disasters in Bac Ninh province.
This is the second international aid shipment to Vietnamese localities affected by natural disasters caused by storms No. 10 and 11 recently. The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control was assigned by the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to play the role of focal point for coordination, information sharing and connection between donors and local authorities of affected provinces.
Mr. Nguyen Truong Son, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Ms. Thai Hai Anh, Vice Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Ninh province were the representatives to receive the emergency aid. On the Australian side, there was Australian Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms. Renee Jean Deschamps.
The aid includes 320 kitchenware sets, 756 hygiene kits, 756 home repair kits, and 300 blankets. After receiving them, the shipment is expected to be delivered to Bac Ninh province on October 15 so that the locality can distribute them to people in disaster-hit areas.
At the aid handover ceremony, Ms. Renee Jean Deschamps expressed her deep condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam for the losses and damages caused by recent floods, especially in the Northern and North Central regions.
In the face of increasingly unusual natural disasters in Vietnam, the Australian Government, with its aid programs, will continue to support Vietnam in further enhancing its capacity to prevent and combat natural disasters and adapt to climate change.
Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Nguyen Truong Son and Vice Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Ninh province Thai Hai Anh expressed their gratitude and sent thanks from the leaders of Bac Ninh province for the valuable support of the Australian Government and people, and affirmed that the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control will take on the role of coordination well, closely coordinating with the Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Ninh province to promptly transfer aid to people affected by natural disasters in Bac Ninh province.
In addition to the Australian shipment today, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control is expected to receive relief goods from Russia, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre) and many other international organizations.
These relief resources include essential necessities, kitchenware, household items, home repairs, water filtration equipment, personal hygiene items, and cash to support localities. Relief goods will be distributed to localities heavily affected by the recent "storm on storm, flood on flood" wave, especially the northern provinces such as Lang Son, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh...
On October 14, a shipment of international aid goods from Japan was delivered to Bac Ninh province thanks to a free truck supported by Ngoc Duc Hang Transport and Trading Joint Stock Company.
On the same day, at the Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership meeting on the results of the rapid assessment of damage and urgent relief needs, a number of embassies and international organizations announced relief packages for localities affected by floods in Vietnam, including the Australian Embassy with more than 1.93 million USD, the Korean Embassy with 1 million USD, the European Union (EU) with 532,000 USD, World Vision with 350,000 USD, CRS with 100,000 USD, Plan International with 58,000 USD, HWA with 30,000 USD, and Care International with 150,000 USD.
Previously, on the afternoon of October 13, at Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi), the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control received emergency international aid from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for people affected by natural disasters in Bac Ninh./.
