Although expected to be a new step forward, according to reviews from Nanoreview and Tomshardware, the Kirin 9000S brings many highlights but also cannot avoid notable limitations.

Huawei has faced the loss of access to US-origin technology, including TSMC's systems, forcing it to seek support from SMIC to manufacture the Kirin 9000S on a 7nm process.

Nanoreview conducted detailed tests on the Kirin 9000S and compared them with its predecessor, the Kirin 9000. In the AnTuTu 10 test, the Kirin 9000S scored almost the same overall score as the Kirin 9000, but lost up to 33% in GPU performance.

On Geekbench 6, the Kirin 9000S has remarkable multitasking performance, despite having a lower clock speed and the same number of cores, it is faster than the Kirin 9000. However, surprisingly, the Kirin 9000 outperforms the Kirin 9000 by 20% in the 3DMark Wild Life test, which could be related to the GPU capabilities of the Kirin 9000.

The difference between SMIC's 7nm process and TSMC's N5 process has created a significant difference in power efficiency. The Kirin 9000S, which is manufactured on SMIC's second-generation process, has significantly lower power efficiency than the Kirin 9000.

Tomshardware concludes that the Kirin 9000S, while slower than its predecessor, is still a good smartphone chip. However, the question remains whether it can compete in a crowded market with products from Apple, MediaTek, and Qualcomm. The truth behind Huawei's latest chip remains a topic of interest, raising questions and prospects for the company's future in the mobile technology sector.
