Discussing solutions to improve the quality of rice and rice seeds.

Annually, Vietnam cultivates rice on approximately 7.1-7.2 million hectares, requiring around 570,000-580,000 tons of rice seeds. With the participation of numerous institutes, universities, seed centers, and various units and businesses in research, selection, and seed production, many new high-quality rice varieties have been developed and introduced into production, contributing to improving the quality of commercial rice for domestic consumption and export. Institutes, universities, businesses, and related units have intensified the application of new technologies in seed production, such as biotechnology, genetic engineering, cell technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) to control the quality and purity of seeds. This has increasingly met the requirements for quantity, quality, and variety of seeds for high-quality, low-emission rice production. However, seed production and the application of new technologies in rice seed production still face difficulties, including high seed production costs and the issue of rice seeds sold on the market not meeting quality and purity standards.

At the workshop, delegates were updated and provided with information on the current state of rice production and research and production of rice seeds in Vietnam. They were introduced to technologies and development directions, the application of technologies in seed production, as well as technologies for testing and certifying the purity of rice seeds. Information was also provided on the application of AI, along with post-harvest and processing technologies to ensure the quality of seeds and commercial rice. Delegates also exchanged ideas, discussed, and proposed solutions to overcome difficulties and strengthen linkages and cooperation among relevant parties to promote research and application of new technologies in the development of rice seed production and rice seed quality management.

Leaders of the Vietnam Rice Industry Association and the Vietnam Seed Trade Association signed a memorandum of cooperation.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Rice Industry Association and the Vietnam Seed Trade Association signed a memorandum of cooperation to coordinate research, production, and improvement of rice seed and rice quality, as well as the development of the Vietnamese rice industry.
