VFF Disciplinary Committee intervenes

The match between Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club and PVF-CAND in round 4 of the 2024-2025 First Division League ended with a violent scandal, as striker Nguyen Xuan Nam of PVF-CAND and defender Vu Van Son of Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club clashed in the tunnel after the match.

While Xuan Nam was beaten until he bled, Van Son also sustained abrasions. According to camera footage, the two sides fought before being separated by teammates and security personnel.

According to sources from Thanh Nien Newspaper, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will get involved. The VFF Disciplinary Committee will receive the match supervisor's report today (November 15) before deciding on the penalty. The VPF will also send relevant documents to the VFF.

Xuan Nam recounted to Thanh Nien Newspaper: "I knew Son was a young player, so I reminded him on the field, 'Don't be disrespectful.' When I went into the tunnel, he sat there cursing at me. The other players from the Ho Chi Minh City Youth team tried to calm him down, but he kept cursing. During the argument, I only lightly pushed Son's chest with my hand, but he lunged at me and punched me, which surprised me. I didn't think Son would do that because he's about ten years younger than me. Of course, I wanted to punch him back. After that, Son ran away, and everyone rushed to stop him. I didn't want to say much more. There were cameras and surveillance, so let everyone see for themselves."

Van Son's face swelled up.

Conversely, Van Son claimed that after entering the tunnel, when he went into the changing room, Xuan Nam cursed at him, challenged him to meet outside the Thong Nhat Stadium gate, and then shoved him. Son said that when he pushed Xuan Nam away, Nam punched him, so the 2003-born central defender punched back.

Besides the brawl between Xuan Nam and Van Son, the PVF-CAND team manager also left a negative impression when he received a red card for using inappropriate language towards the referee. It is highly likely that the PVF-CAND team manager will also face disciplinary action.

Returning to the match between Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club and PVF-CAND at Thong Nhat Stadium on the evening of November 14th, the two teams drew 0-0. PVF-CAND has 8 points after 4 matches, ranking third, 2 points behind league leaders Binh Phuoc . Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club has only 2 points since the beginning of the season, ranking eighth.
