A massive sandstorm swept through the cities of Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, and Churu in Rajasthan, India, on the afternoon of May 30th, with thick clouds of dust covering the area and turning the daytime sky almost dark. Videos circulating online showed a giant yellow wall of dust advancing toward the city.
During the sandstorm, massive, fast-moving columns of dust blanketed many areas, severely reducing visibility. Many vehicles had to slow down in the adverse weather conditions, while trees were toppled by strong winds. In some places, this phenomenon was accompanied by rain and strong gusts of wind, increasing the risk of accidents for road users.
The sandstorm blanketed cities in a thick haze, creating an eerie yellowish-brown glow. This made driving dangerous and forced many residents to seek shelter indoors. Panic ensued in some areas as strong winds carried the dust.

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned residents about thunderstorms, lightning, and dust storms in Rajasthan state, and advised people to limit travel during the worsening weather.
Thunderstorms and rain have also been recorded in several districts of Rajasthan state over the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall of 58 mm was recorded in Bari, Dholpur district. The Jaipur Meteorological Centre forecasts thunderstorms and strong winds, with wind speeds reaching 60-70 km/h in some areas of the cities of Bikaner, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Kota, Jodhpur and Udaipur.
Heavy rain is possible in some areas, while hail and lightning strikes are likely in other regions. The cycle of thunderstorms and afternoon rain is likely to continue in some areas of Rajasthan for the next 4 to 5 days.
