On May 28th, the first Congress of the Bac Ninh Provincial Journalists Association, for the term 2026-2031, took place, holding special significance. This was particularly important given that Bac Ninh province was newly established through the merger of two localities with rich journalistic traditions. This not only marked a milestone in consolidating the Association's organization after administrative reorganization, but also initiated a new phase of development for journalists in the province.

According to the political report presented to the Congress, in implementation of Resolution No. 76/2025/UBTVQH15 on the reorganization of administrative units in 2025, from July 1, 2025, the former provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh will be merged into the new province of Bac Ninh. Immediately afterwards, the Journalists' Associations of the two provinces implemented the merger steps. On July 17, 2025, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 332/QD-UBND allowing the merger of the Journalists' Association of Bac Giang province and the former Journalists' Association of Bac Ninh province into the Journalists' Association of Bac Ninh province.

Following the merger, the Executive Committee of the Association has 22 members; the Provisional Standing Committee has 4 members, including 1 full-time President and 3 Vice Presidents. As of May 2026, the Association has 7 staff members; the number of members is 400, operating in branches belonging to newspapers, radio stations, literary magazines and the Office Journalists' Branch. This is an important force, creating a foundation for the Association to continue to promote its role as a political, social, and professional organization for journalists in the province.

During the 2020-2025 term, despite facing many difficulties, especially the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the restructuring of the organizational apparatus, and the increasingly strong demands for digital transformation, the activities of the Association and the press in Bac Ninh still achieved many outstanding results. The work of building the Association's organization was given attention; the recruitment of new members ensured compliance with the Charter of the Vietnam Journalists Association , prioritizing quality. In the five years, the Association admitted over 50 new members; no members violated professional ethics or the law to the extent requiring disciplinary action.

Political, ideological, and professional training is regularly implemented. The Journalists' Associations of the two provinces previously coordinated the organization of over 20 specialized professional training courses for more than 1,000 members; sent over 80 members to attend training courses organized by the Vietnam Journalists' Association's Professional Training Center; and organized field trips and professional exchanges attracting over 200 members and journalists.

Journalism awards continue to be a training ground for creating high-quality works. During the period 2020-2025, an average of 32-40 outstanding works were awarded the Than Nhan Trung Journalism Award and the Ngo Gia Tu Journalism Award each year. Prior to the merger, the Bac Giang Provincial Journalists Association coordinated and organized 15 themed journalism competitions, an increase of 5 compared to the resolution set by the Congress. During the term, the Association had 7 authors/groups of authors who won National Journalism Awards, including 4 C prizes and 3 Encouragement prizes.

Besides the achievements, there are still limitations such as the Association's operational methods not being truly diverse; the quality of activities among branches not being uniform; digital transformation in media agencies, although receiving attention, has not met expectations; and some members not being truly proactive in participating in the Association's work and creating high-quality works.

Entering the 2026-2031 term, the Bac Ninh Provincial Journalists Association has set the goal of building a strong organization and developing journalism in a comprehensive, modern, and humane way. The Association strives to organize 10 specialized professional training courses, 3 specialized seminars on journalism and association work; annually, 100% of branches achieve strong performance standards, 60% of journalist members achieve the title of outstanding member at the grassroots level, and no members violate the law, the Association's regulations, or professional ethics.

The First Congress was a crucial starting point for Bac Ninh's press to continue innovating its journalistic thinking, enhancing its political acumen, professional ethics, and multimedia capabilities. In the context of digital transformation, the requirements are not only to deliver news quickly, accurately, and effectively, but also to build social trust, spread humanitarian values, protect the Party's ideological foundation, and accompany the development of Bac Ninh province in the new era.
