On the morning of August 23, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that last night a tropical depression entered the eastern sea area of ​​the North East Sea.

At 1am, the tropical depression was about 730km east of Hoang Sa special zone with a strong intensity of level 7 (50-61km/h), gusting to level 9. The tropical depression moved in the West Northwest direction, at a speed of about 25km/h.

The Hydrometeorological Agency forecasts that in the next 3-6 hours, the tropical depression is likely to strengthen into a storm. In the next 24 hours, storm No. 5 will enter the northern sea area of ​​Hoang Sa special zone at level 10 intensity.

According to forecasts, in the next 24-48 hours, the storm will enter the southern Gulf of Tonkin with a strength of level 12, gusting to level 15. The storm will then continue to move rapidly to the West Northwest, making landfall in the provinces of Nghe An - Quang Tri .

From the next 48 to 72 hours, the storm will move in the West Northwest direction, about 15km per hour and gradually weaken.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression (which later strengthened into a storm), the North East Sea area (including Hoang Sa special zone) had strong winds of level 6-7, later increasing to level 8, near the storm's eye level 9-10, gusting to level 12. Waves were 3-5m high, near the storm's eye 4-6m, very rough seas.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed Official Dispatch No. 141 of the Prime Minister requesting ministries, branches and localities to proactively respond to the tropical depression that is likely to strengthen into a storm.

To proactively respond to the tropical depression that is likely to strengthen into a storm, with the risk of heavy rain causing flooding, landslides, flash floods, the Prime Minister requested localities to continuously provide information on the developments of the tropical depression, storms, and floods, in order to proactively direct the implementation of appropriate response work.

In particular, coastal provinces and cities need to focus on directing and immediately implementing measures to ensure safety for ships, vehicles and activities at sea and along the coast, especially to prevent storms and lightning that can cause damage before the storm directly affects them.

The Prime Minister noted that localities should proactively evacuate people from dangerous areas to ensure safety of life and limit damage to people's property when natural disasters occur.

In particular, units need to ensure the safety of hydroelectric dams and irrigation works in the area, prevent overlapping floods, contribute to reducing floods downstream, and avoid unexpected passiveness.

The Minister of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to direct the hydro-meteorological forecasting agency to provide full and timely information on the developments of tropical depressions/storms, floods and rains to authorities and people so that they can proactively deploy response work.

In the coming days, the Prime Minister requested to strengthen monitoring and regularly update weather, meteorological and hydrological forecasts in localities forecast to be affected by tropical depressions/storms; tourist centers; and locations hosting activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2.
