Museum of Ceramics from the Founding Period

Emphasizing the message of preserving and promoting the value of ancient Vietnamese ceramic heritage, the museum regularly and thematically displays a large number of ceramic artifacts. Of particular note is the "ceramic pot," a Dong Son culture artifact recognized as a National Treasure (13th batch) according to Decision No. 1712/QD-TTg, dated December 31, 2024, of the Prime Minister

In addition, the museum also houses more than 400 ancient ceramic artifacts from pre-Dong Son cultures such as Phung Nguyen, Dong Dau, Go Mun…; Bronze Age cultures such as Sa Huynh; early historical cultures of the Dong Nai River basin, as well as collections of artifacts from several periods in Vietnam's feudal history.

Pottery first appeared in Vietnam during the Hoa Binh culture period, approximately 10,000 years ago, followed by pottery in a series of other cultures such as Cai Beo, Ha Long, Hoa Loc, Con Chan Tien, etc. Later, around 4,000-2,500 years ago, in the Phung Nguyen, Dong Dau, Go Mun, and Dong Son cultures, pottery developed continuously with many new forms. The development of pottery technology also contributed greatly to the improvement of bronze casting molds, iron smelting pots, etc., promoting the development of the Metal Age and the nation-building process.

The national treasure, the "ceramic pot," is a typical example of pottery in the daily life of the people of the Dong Son culture. The pot is made of fired clay, fine clay mixed with sand, plant residue, small pebbles, and ochre powder. The pottery body is relatively hard, strong, and reddish-gray in color. Micropictures show that the pottery was fired at a high temperature, approximately 800-900°C. This artifact, from the time of the Hung Kings who founded the nation, has been discovered, studied, and highly valued by archaeologists as a top-tier Dong Son culture pottery.

The Museum of Ceramics from the Nation-Building Era not only provides vivid documentation for historical and archaeological research and community education about the value of national heritage, but also participates in connecting the community, creating diverse experiential spaces, and arousing pride in Vietnamese culture among the public, especially the younger generation.
