From the Growing Up with Books contest, each contestant will read books on the spot and make products according to their talents.
On March 6, 52 outstanding students from 13 secondary schools in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City participated in the Growing Up with Books contest (organized by the Department of Education and Training of Tan Binh District).
Each student will choose one of the books displayed at the contest with many genres: literature, science , history, ethics, common sense...
After 60 minutes of reading, students will create a product according to their ability. The contest organizers' condition is: the product must express the contestant's feelings and thoughts about the content of the book they have read.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Anh Khoa, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Tan Binh District, said: "The purpose of the activity is to train students in the skill of reading a book quickly; knowing how to summarize the main content; and understanding the message the author wants to convey."
After 90 minutes of making the product, the judges of the contest were very surprised by the students' boundless creativity:
"We have organized the Growing Up with Books contest for many years. However, this year is the first year that contestants choose books and read them on the spot. It is not necessary for them to read the whole book. They can just read one story or a few short stories in a book. From there, they can make associations and create their own products.
And I was really surprised and excited to see their products. The products are very rich and diverse.
Some students write poems, some compose songs and perform them at the contest; some make greeting cards; design mini books; draw pictures, tear paper and paste pictures; make models from recycled products, write essays, and make propaganda posters" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Kieu, literature specialist, Department of Education and Training of Tan Binh district, commented.
