Also attending were Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Nguyen Trung Khanh, along with leaders of Departments, Divisions and units under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
At the meeting, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai, Pham Thi Trung, reported an overview of the province's tourism development potential and advantages after the merger of Kon Tum and Quang Ngai. This is a strategic step, forming a new administrative unit large enough, capable of strong breakthroughs, becoming an important growth pole in the Central Highlands - Central region. Quang Ngai aims to develop green agriculture and tourism, maximizing the advantages of the sea, the Central Highlands and indigenous cultural values. After the merger, Quang Ngai owns three main ecological regions: highlands, plains and islands, creating conditions for sustainable multi-sector economic development, from high-tech agriculture to marine economy and ecotourism.

Complementing the strengths of the two localities will form a comprehensive tourism ecosystem. Quang Ngai has sea, seaport, highway and national railway, while the West has a treasure trove of indigenous culture and an ideal climate for highland resorts. Connecting destinations with a convenient transportation system will help Quang Ngai tourism make a breakthrough in the number of visitors, length of stay and spending. The "forest - sea - island" products can create a unique inter-route tour, from Mang Den to My Khe and Ly Son in the same journey.
However, Quang Ngai tourism still faces challenges. Tourism products lack breakthroughs, lack entertainment services and night-time economic activities to retain tourists. Service quality and technical facilities are still limited. The number of visitors to Quang Ngai is still low, expected to welcome 4.9 million in 2025, of which 60,000 are international visitors. The traffic infrastructure is not synchronous, causing difficulties in traveling, it is necessary to upgrade and invest in more routes connecting Mang Den, Ly Son, Sa Huynh to open the door to tourism development. Tourism human resources still lack expertise and high skills. Community tourism activities are seasonal and lack connectivity. Travel business activities are still weak. Investment resources for products and promotion are still low.

The leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that in the coming time, Quang Ngai will issue a sustainable tourism development program with a focus on linking sea - island tourism (Ly Son), eco-tourism - resort (Mang Den) and Bo Y International Border Gate Economic Zone. The province will also promote attracting investment in high-class accommodation infrastructure in planned national tourist areas such as Ly Son, My Khe, Mang Den. At the same time, develop community tourism villages, traditional craft villages, fairs, walking streets, and night economic areas. By 2030, Quang Ngai strives to welcome 8 million visitors, including more than 400,000 international visitors.
To celebrate the 1st Quang Ngai Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030, celebrate World Tourism Day September 27, 2025 and respond to National Tourism Year - Hue 2025, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai advised to organize the Workshop "Quang Ngai Tourism in 2025: Connecting potential - Synergizing to create - Breaking through to reach far" and a series of related activities.
The workshop is scheduled to take place from September 14-18, 2025, with the main date being September 18, 2025, co-chaired by the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the leaders of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee. Pre-workshop activities include surveying tourism investment potential, Famtrip program to build tours, displaying cultural tourism products, organizing national/regional pickleball/running tournaments (from September 6-9, 2025) and tree planting activities at My Khe Beach, Ly Son Special Zone and Mang Den Tourist Area.
At the meeting, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh highly appreciated the initiative of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai after the locality implemented the merger. Quang Ngai has proactively coordinated with the Ministry and related units to grasp the development trends of culture and tourism. The report from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai, although brief, covered important contents related to the economy and tourism development of the province after the merger, opening up new space for development.
Regarding the proposal to support the organization of the Quang Ngai Tourism Conference in 2025, the Director assessed that this was a very proactive move by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in advising the Provincial People's Committee to organize an important event right after the merger and in the first year. The theme of the conference closely followed the orientation of Minister Nguyen Van Hung on the tourism industry, which is "Joint efforts, Selecting locations, Accelerating". The Director requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop a detailed plan for the conference and send it to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism for comments and completion. The Director emphasized that since the conference is scheduled to be held next September, urgent and thorough preparation is needed. During the implementation process, the parties need to coordinate closely to effectively exchange information and successfully organize the event, bringing practical results.
The leaders of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration also expressed their agreement with the province's proposal on local response activities during the National Tourism Year 2026. In addition, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration requested the Quang Ngai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to proactively research and advise the provincial leaders to soon establish a local tourism development steering committee. This will help effectively implement tourism development guidelines, especially Resolution 82 of the Government, Directive 08 and Official Dispatch 34 of the Prime Minister.
The Vietnam National Tourism Administration will also coordinate with relevant parties to build products and promote the Quang Ngai brand for sustainable development.

Delegates also discussed and clarified many issues, focusing on heritage management and developing sports activities associated with tourism, aiming to bring better livelihoods to Quang Ngai people.
After listening to opinions, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong emphasized that Quang Ngai after the administrative boundary merger is a land with abundant potential and advantages, which needs to be developed and exploited optimally. To achieve this goal, the Deputy Minister directed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to proactively advise the leaders of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee to build breakthrough mechanisms and institutions, clear bottlenecks, thereby creating a solid foundation for the development of culture, sports and tourism in the locality. Regarding planning, it is necessary to carefully review old plans and supplement new plans suitable to the development context. Focus on raising awareness of the role of culture, allocating resources reasonably to promote the development of culture, sports and tourism.
Review the development of cultural, sports and tourism products to attract more tourists to Quang Ngai, while promoting the public-private partnership model in product development. Reposition the province's brand, actively participate in inter-regional and regional connections. In particular, it is necessary to invest all resources to maximize the soft power of culture. Finally, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong emphasized that the merger of administrative boundaries is just the beginning. Quang Ngai needs to do better in integrating the "cultural space" in the subconscious of each citizen, in order to shape a new cultural region based on the principle of equal development in common unity.
