Former Deputy Director of the Bac Lieu City Land Registration Office Branch Arrested

On May 22nd, Mr. Le Hong Quan, Director of the People's Procuracy of Bac Lieu City (Bac Lieu province), stated that on the same afternoon, the Criminal Investigation Agency of Bac Lieu City Police, in coordination with relevant units, implemented the decision to prosecute and the order to temporarily detain Mr. Duong Tan Thien (41 years old, former Deputy Director of the Bac Lieu City Land Registration Office Branch) for investigation into the act of negligence causing serious consequences.

Mr. Thien currently holds the position of Deputy Head of the Administrative and General Affairs Department, under the Land Registration Office, directly under the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Bac Lieu province.

On the same day, authorities conducted searches of Mr. Thien's residence and workplace as part of the investigation.

The Bac Lieu City Police have implemented the decision to prosecute and the order to temporarily detain Mr. Duong Tan Thien.

According to initial information from the police, in 2019, the Bac Lieu City Land Registration Office branch was negligent in performing its assigned duties, incorrectly identifying the location of land parcels to determine land-related financial obligations. This resulted in a loss of over 1.5 billion VND to the state budget.

Currently, the Investigation Police Department of Bac Lieu City is continuing to investigate and clarify the act of negligence causing serious consequences committed by the former Deputy Director of the Bac Lieu City Land Registration Office Branch.
