Quang Ninh: Girl has outstanding height and weight development, chest circumference up to 95 cm, doctor diagnosed early puberty

On September 15, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Linh, Department of Respiratory - Cardiovascular - Digestive - Neurology, Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, said that the patient was admitted with a height of 1.49 m, weight of 55 kg, and chest circumference of 95 cm. Meanwhile, the average weight of girls of this age is 28-41 kg and height of 1.32-1.44 m. In addition, the child also showed chest pain. The doctor diagnosed the child with precocious puberty.

According to her family, her breasts had been showing signs of increasing size for a long time but she thought it was because she was obese so she did not go to the doctor.

After treatment with medication, the baby's hormone levels remained stable.

Recently, Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital examined and treated over 30 children with precocious puberty. This 9-year-old patient is the most advanced case, the specific cause has not been determined.

Precocious puberty can be due to genetic factors, gender-related factors, and racial factors. Other causes include tumors in the ovaries, adrenal glands, pituitary glands, brain, or central nervous system problems, hormonal disorders, and brain injuries. Pre-adolescent obesity can accelerate the conversion of androgen hormones to estrogen, leading to precocious puberty.

The most obvious sign is growth in height. For women, other signs include breast and genital growth, body odor, and voice development.

Early puberty prevents children from developing optimally in terms of height and physical strength, affecting their psychology. The difference in physical appearance compared to most of their friends can make children feel inferior and withdrawn. Some studies show that many adults are prone to psychological problems such as mental disorders and depression because of early puberty in the past. Parents and caregivers are also likely to be confused and worried because of their children's abnormalities.

Their bodies are plump and full but their minds are still immature, they are not aware of abusive behavior and cannot protect themselves, so children who go through puberty early are more susceptible to sexual abuse.

Currently, the main treatment for children with precocious puberty is hormone injections to slow down growth rate, puberty rate and slow down secondary sexual development, still being able to achieve the final height according to the parents' genetics. Psychological pressures are also limited, helping children develop at the right age.

To prevent early puberty, parents need to create a healthy, nutritious diet for their children. A balanced nutritional menu helps the body develop healthily. Choose fresh foods that do not contain genetically modified substances, limit canned foods, fast foods, foods high in oil, fat and sugar. Avoid foods containing growth hormones.
