Hanoi – A 7-year-old boy went to his father's workplace and was unexpectedly attacked by four dogs, sustaining hundreds of wounds on his body.
The child was rushed to the National Children's Hospital in a state of pain and panic. On October 31st, Dr. Le Tuan Anh, Deputy Head of the Orthopedics Department at the National Children's Hospital, stated that the child received emergency resuscitation and underwent surgery to clean out wounds containing dirt, sand, and dog hair, including a wound approximately 13 cm long.
Currently, after surgery, the child is out of danger and has received rabies and tetanus vaccinations. However, the child is still suffering from severe psychological trauma.
This child is the third patient treated at the hospital for dog bites since the beginning of October, all suffering from multiple life-threatening injuries.
Doctors advise families who own dogs and cats to ensure their pets are fully vaccinated and receive annual booster shots, and to avoid letting pets roam freely. Dogs going out in public must wear muzzles. If bitten, scratched, or licked by a dog or cat, the wound should be rinsed under running water for 15 minutes as soon as possible. Afterward, the wound should be washed with soap and water or with antiseptic agents such as iodine alcohol, 70% alcohol, spirits, soap, shampoo, or body wash.
Go to the hospital for first aid, wound assessment, and advice on vaccination and serum depending on the specific case, the animal bite, the circumstances of the bite or exposure to the source of infection, and the rabies situation in the area. Absolutely do not self-medicate by buying, applying, or poulticeing medicine to the wound or treating it with folk remedies, as this is dangerous to your health and life.
