VHO - The 2026 National Chess Championship, organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation in coordination with the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has concluded successfully, leaving many noteworthy professional impressions.

This is the most important tournament in the national chess competition system, bringing together outstanding players and serving as a crucial basis for selecting Vietnam's representatives to participate in the 2026 Chess Olympiad.

The tournament brings together many of the country's top chess players.

This year, the tournament took place from March 7th to 16th, attracting 225 players from 20 provinces, cities, and sectors across the country.

The tournament brought together many of Vietnam's top chess players, including Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Le Tuan Minh, Tran Tuan Minh, Dao Thien Hai, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Vo Thi Kim Phung, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, and Luong Phuong Hanh.

Besides them, there are many talented young players such as: Banh Gia Huy, Dau Khuong Duy, Pham Tran Gia Phuc, Nguyen Quoc Hy, Dinh Nho Kiet, Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong and Nguyen Binh Vy.

Chess players competed for a total of 8 individual medals for men and women in standard chess, rapid chess, blitz chess, and super blitz chess, as well as 4 ASEAN chess medals.

In the most important event, standard chess, young player Bang Gia Huy ( Hanoi ) created a major surprise by winning the championship with 7.5 points after 9 games, including 6 wins and 3 draws, affirming the remarkable progress of the young generation of chess players.

The organizing committee presented awards for the men's standard chess event.

In the women's standard chess category, Luong Phuong Hanh ( Can Tho ) played consistently to win the championship with 7 points after 9 games (6 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss).

In the ASEAN standard chess event, Vo Thanh Ninh ( An Giang ) won the gold medal in the men's category with 7 points, while the women's championship went to Nguyen Thi Huynh Thu (Vinh Long) with 6.5 points.

Earlier, in the rapid, blitz, and super blitz chess events, Le Tuan Minh (Hanoi) showed impressive form by winning all 3 gold medals in the men's category.

In the women's category, Pham Le Thao Nguyen (Can Tho) demonstrated her class by winning two gold medals in both rapid and blitz chess.

In the women's super blitz chess event, young player Bui Thi Ngoc Chi (Ninh Binh), born in 2009, caused a surprise by taking the top spot.
