On the morning of November 4th, Dr. Du Thi Ngoc Thu, Head of the Organ Transplant Coordination Unit at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, stated that the hospital does not accept body donations.
"After Tien Phong newspaper reported that Viet Trinh wished to donate her body, many people came to Cho Ray Hospital to apply for body donation. We want to emphasize that Cho Ray Hospital does not accept body donations. The hospital only accepts cases of organ donation," said Doctor Du Thi Ngoc Thu.
Dr. Du Thi Ngoc Thu stated that the institutions receiving donated bodies are medical universities, such as the University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Only medical universities have dedicated cadavers for training and teaching purposes.
Contacted by reporters, actress Viet Trinh stated that she intends to donate her body after completing the organ donation procedures at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City five years ago. The actress from 'The Beauty of Tay Do' said she will register at a body donation center, possibly the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, as early as November, around her 52nd birthday.
In late October, Viet Trinh revealed that she was researching the procedures for body donation at several hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, waiting for the time to register after registering for organ donation five years ago. The actress explained that organ donation is the voluntary donation of certain body parts, while body donation is the donation of one's entire body to medical science after death.
"If I live a healthy life until old age, when I pass away, I want to make a useful contribution to society and medicine. The usable parts of my body could help train medical students," Viet Trinh said.
The actress said that some friends objected when she shared her intention to donate her body. She explained to her family that it was a righteous act. The actress felt happy to be spreading the humanitarian meaning of donating bodies and organs to medicine.
"Asians, and Vietnamese in general, are hesitant about donating bodies and organs, believing that a person dying without a complete body is taboo. I think differently; I don't want to burden my descendants with too many procedures after I pass away," Viet Trinh further shared.
