The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is going through a turbulent period when President Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub unexpectedly submitted his resignation. This decision was approved by the FAM executive board at an emergency meeting held today (August 27).
Datuk Joehari’s resignation has left FAM in a very vulnerable position. He was only elected as president on February 15, 2025. He had previously served as vice president since 2017.
The FAM Executive Board expressed its regret and deep gratitude for the contributions, dedication and enthusiasm of Mr. Datuk Joehari during his time with the federation.
Faced with this situation, the Malaysian Football Federation had to quickly find an alternative solution to ensure stability in operations.
According to FAM regulations, if the position of president becomes vacant, the most senior vice president will assume the role until the next congress. At that congress, a new president will be elected to serve the remainder of the term.

In compliance with this regulation, the Executive Board has unanimously appointed Mr. Datuk Haji Mahadi - the most senior vice president as acting president of FAM with immediate effect.
Mohd Yusoff will take on the responsibility of leading the federation during this challenging transition period. The decision comes amid controversy over the naturalization of players in Malaysia in violation of FIFA regulations.
The change in leadership will certainly generate a lot of opinions. However, fans in the country also hope that the new leader will steer Malaysian football through this period of turmoil.
