In the two communes of Tan Phu and Thanh Trieu (Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province), there is a compassionate "long-haired team" that cooks 350 delicious meals a month to donate to orphans and the elderly at social welfare centers, as well as those receiving treatment at the Mental Health Care Center. This "team" also acts as godmothers for 22 orphaned children who lost their parents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The group was established two years ago, initially with 9 members, and has now grown to 25. Every month, the group contributes money, fruit from their gardens, cakes, etc., for a charitable meal.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thinh, the group leader, shared: "The entire women's group shares the same sentiment with the motto 'giving is forever.' With the 'Compassionate Meal Fund,' more and more people have joined hands to support and ensure the continuous cooking of charitable meals for over two years."
Meanwhile, in Thanh Trieu commune, the "long-haired squad" donated milk to orphans and acted as godmothers for the children. Ms. Au Kim Tham, president of the Women's Union of the commune, recounted: "Initially, Ms. Tham and a friend used their salaries to buy milk to donate to the children."
However, there are still many orphaned children in the area from disadvantaged families. Therefore, the organization has launched a program to care for orphaned children, not only by giving gifts but also by acting as godmothers to care for and educate these unfortunate children."
Over two years of operation, the "long-haired team" has provided nearly 10,000 meals, clothing, books, and nutritious food to the elderly, mentally ill, disabled children, and orphans.
