The Ministry of Industry and Trade is promoting coal imports from Laos to Vietnam.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces to urge investors to accelerate the progress of infrastructure projects such as warehouses, conveyor belts, ports, and roads to boost coal imports from Laos to Vietnam.

On November 26th, the Office of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province announced that it had just received a document from... Ministry of Industry and Trade Regarding promoting coal trade between Vietnam and Laos.

The Ministry requested the People's Committees of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces to study the rational mobilization of existing border gates to serve the needs. customs clearance of goods (including coal) imported from Laos.

Regarding investment projects at the La Lay international border gate (Dakrong district), the ministry requests Quang Tri province to expedite their implementation. investors Expedite the construction of coal storage and handling facilities at the La Lay border gate, and accelerate investment in a conveyor belt system for transporting coal through the La Lay border gate, ensuring synchronization with the implementation progress and investment scale on the Lao side.

The Ministry also requested the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group, the Northeast Corporation, and enterprises importing coal from Laos to expedite the review of infrastructure and port facilities in the Central region and urgently research and implement investment plans for the construction of coal transshipment and storage facilities that ensure safety, environmental protection, efficiency, and compliance with legal regulations to provide sufficient and stable supply to coal-fired power plants as directed by the Prime Minister in Directive No. 29/CT-TTg.

These units are also required to work and coordinate with Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces to receive guidance and promptly resolve any obstacles in the process of investing in and constructing port facilities and infrastructure for processing, transshipment, and coal storage in the Central region.

To boost coal imports from Laos to Vietnam, Quang Tri province has recently made efforts to remove obstacles and guide businesses through the necessary procedures so that projects can be implemented soon.

Nam Tien Co., Ltd. and Phonesack Vietnam Co., Ltd. are implementing numerous projects related to coal import with capital amounting to trillions of VND, such as the project to build a coal conveyor belt from Laos to Vietnam via the La Lay international border gate, over 6.1km long; a warehouse in A Deng village, A Ngo commune (Dakrong district); and a specialized coal port and warehouse at My Thuy port (Hai Lang district)...

According to La Lay customs, in the first 10 months of the year, this border gate processed 1.7 million tons of coal, collecting 370 billion VND in taxes.
