TPO - In response to information spreading on social networks that universities in Hanoi will be merged into school blocks, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has officially spoken out.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that the Ministry was assigned by the Government to develop a project to rearrange and reorganize the system of higher education institutions and is coordinating with relevant agencies to research and assess the current situation before reporting the plan for the Government and Prime Minister to consider and decide.

Recently, information has appeared on social networks about the plan to rearrange and reorganize the university education system. According to this information, the Hanoi area will have clusters of schools such as the national universities of engineering and technology: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Industry, University of Electricity, University of Transport Technology, University of Mining and Geology. The cluster of national medical and health universities includes: Hanoi Medical University, University of Public Health, Academy of Traditional Medicine....

The policy of restructuring higher education is included in Resolution 71 of the Politburo, requiring early arrangement and streamlining of the public university network, elimination of unnecessary intermediate levels, dissolution of weak schools, and research on merging research institutes into universities. Some facilities may be transferred to local management.

At the 2025 university education conference, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son affirmed that there are 140 public universities that need to be reorganized and merged.
