Meeting village elder A Chieu in the early morning, with his clear voice and nimble feet on the village road, he was going from house to house, spreading awareness and encouraging villagers to change their mindset and practices, and to diversify their crops and livestock for a better life.
Elder A Chieu shared: "Khuc Na village maintains a weekly Sunday morning meeting. Villagers gather at the communal house to be informed about the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations. Personally, I also regularly visit each household to check on the villagers and combine this with propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage them to promote solidarity and mutual assistance in economic development, and especially to effectively utilize the State's investment resources, such as the striped pig farming model, the cattle fattening model, and the model for improving neglected gardens that the State has supported for the villagers."
Khuc Na village has 147 households and 448 inhabitants, nearly 100% of whom are Xo Dang people – the Ha Lang branch. With the support of the State and the guidance of village elder A Chieu, the people of Khuc Na village always focus on production, boldly switching from less efficient crops to planting rubber, coffee, and betel nut. In particular, elder A Chieu always encourages the villagers to help each other, avoid excessive drinking and laziness, and ensure their children of school age attend school.
Mr. A Deu, from Khuc Na village, Sa Binh commune, Sa Thay district, shared: "Thanks to the guidance of village elder A Chieu, the people of Khuc Na village have overcome poverty and risen to a stable life. Most houses in the village are now built, and every house has coffee and rubber trees. For example, my family, encouraged by the elder, planted 600 coffee trees and 700 rubber trees, and now earns over 100 million VND a year. With a stable life, we can provide our children with a good education."
Elder A Chieu is also a key figure in uniting and gathering artisans in the village to participate in activities preserving and promoting the traditional cultural identity of the Xơ Đăng people – the Hà Lăng branch – in community life; at the same time, he presides over organizing classes to teach gong playing and Xoang dance to the children and grandchildren in the village. Currently, Khúc Na village has established two gong and Xoang dance teams and regularly participates in cultural events and folk art activities organized by the commune and district.
Ms. Y Huen, from Khuc Na village, Sa Binh commune, Sa Thay district, said: "Elder A Chieu is highly respected by the villagers, primarily because he is always exemplary, diligently working in production, and building a progressive and happy family. He is very close to the villagers, frequently visiting families to inquire about their well-being, chat, and understand their thoughts and feelings. Thanks to him, we have preserved the gongs and traditional dances and will continue to pass them on to future generations."
Visiting Khuc Na village today, everyone is amazed by the lush green rice fields, coffee and rubber plantations; the well-built houses, the concrete-paved village roads, and the lively laughter of children eagerly heading to school.
