Hanoi Volleyball:

More than two months after the establishment of the Hanoi Volleyball Federation and its partnership with the capital's volleyball teams, Hanoi volleyball has received a series of good news. Currently, the teams can confidently "escape poverty" and aim for more ambitious goals.

From the saying "necessity is the mother of invention"

At the beginning of 2025, the management unit of the Hanoi men's and women's volleyball teams participating in the national competition system was still "racking its brains" over a lack of funding to upgrade the teams. The financial problem has plagued them for many years, as they rely almost entirely on the state budget. Most notably, players' incomes are only around 5-7 million VND per month, not including food expenses, significantly lower than many teams in the National Championship. To the point that those in the profession habitually label these teams as "poor."

Because of their limited resources, even though they wanted to recruit foreign players like many other teams, the team management had no choice but to give up. They didn't even have the budget to hire domestic players from elsewhere. Therefore, for many years, the Hanoi men's and women's volleyball teams relied solely on domestic players, mostly from their own local academies, essentially giving them a disadvantage compared to foreign players from other teams. The dream of regaining the status that the Hanoi Post Office men's and women's teams once achieved also seemed incredibly distant.

The Hanoi volleyball team's leader, Mr. Bui Dinh Loi, Head of the Volleyball Department (Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center), is juggling both professional matters and seeking sponsorships, hoping to secure some additional monthly funding for the athletes. However, even that proves incredibly difficult. Therefore, the team is forced to rely on participating in festivals or providing opportunities for athletes to play for other teams on loan, both to gain experience and to earn extra income.

At that time, the greatest aspiration of Hanoi's volleyball managers and coaches was simply to find a sponsor. To achieve this, they placed their hopes on the emergence of the Hanoi Volleyball Federation, which would create a more open mechanism for engaging with businesses.

It's also worth mentioning that the early part of 2025 was when procedures for establishing the Hanoi Volleyball Federation were underway. However, the Federation had not yet been established before the first phase of the National Championship, in which the Hanoi men's volleyball team participated. This meant that the Hanoi men's volleyball team lacked the necessary support to improve their situation, including strengthening their squad with foreign players. The consequences were evident when the men's team lost all five matches in the first phase, facing a high risk of relegation. Similarly, the Hanoi women's team had little hope of promotion, especially since the A-League also allowed teams to hire foreign players.

A spectacular sprint.

However, since the Hanoi Volleyball Federation officially launched at the beginning of August, good news has continuously come to Hanoi's men's and women's teams. First, the men's team has its first foreign player, with financial support from the Federation. Next, the women's team has a sponsor, Tasco Auto. Thanks to this, the players have received additional monthly support - something the team management has long hoped for. At the same time, the team has also acquired a foreign player and received professional support from the renowned Thai expert, Kittipong Pornchartyingcheep. While it's too early to predict the results, this is clearly a positive new wave for Hanoi's men's and women's volleyball teams.

And when the tournaments concluded, the answers truly satisfied those involved. The Hanoi men's team, from a position seemingly destined for relegation, had a spectacular journey to avoid relegation, with the clear role played by Cambodian foreign player Kuon Mom. The Hanoi Tasco Auto women's team also had an impressive run in the 2025 A-League Volleyball Championship finals. With the brilliance of their foreign player combined with a talented young squad, including three players called up to the national team, the Hanoi Tasco Auto women's team won the championship and secured the only ticket to the 2026 National Championship.

The journey of both teams is not only a tribute to Hanoi's high-quality youth volleyball training system over the years. It's also closely linked to the Hanoi Volleyball Federation, which has made a significant impact by mobilizing businesses to support the men's and women's teams in Hanoi. Therefore, the men's team received a 50 million VND bonus from a business after avoiding relegation, something unprecedented for the team. Similarly, the Hanoi Tasco Auto women's team, after winning the national A-League championship, received a 100 million VND bonus from the Hanoi Volleyball Federation and a 500 million VND bonus from Tasco Auto itself. This is in addition to the 50 million VND bonus for reaching the semi-finals and the 1,000 USD bonus for advancing through the group stage. These bonuses, which were once a dream in 2024, have now become a reality. The head coach of the Hanoi Tasco Auto women's volleyball team, Nguyen Huu Binh, also acknowledges that the material encouragement, alongside the funding to recruit foreign players, has positively impacted the Hanoi Tasco Auto women's team.

Mr. Bui Dinh Loi, Head of the Volleyball Department (Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center) and also the General Secretary of the Hanoi Volleyball Federation, added that the Hanoi women's volleyball team is expected to sign another contract with a foreign player in 2026. Furthermore, in October 2025, the men's team reached an agreement with Cambodian player Kuon Mom for him to play for the team in the 2026 season. This is a result of the Hanoi Volleyball Federation's concrete actions.

The synergy between a meticulously nurtured youth training system, high-quality foreign players, and the support of the Hanoi Volleyball Federation and businesses has brought a breath of fresh air to Hanoi volleyball. This allows those involved to dream of reaching the top ranks of the national championship. This is not unrealistic, given the fundamental and concrete conditions in place.
