In early 2025, the management unit of the Hanoi men's and women's volleyball teams participating in the national competition system was still "scratching its head" because of the lack of funds to improve the team's level. The problem of money has been haunting for many years, when it almost only depends on the state budget. Most obviously, the income of the players is only 5 - 7 million VND/month, not including food expenses, much lower than many teams in the National Championship. To the point that people in the profession are used to labeling these teams as "poor families".

Because of “poverty”, even though they wanted to recruit foreign players like many other teams, the team leaders had to give up. Even the budget to hire domestic players from other places was not available. Therefore, for many years, the Hanoi men’s and women’s volleyball teams only used domestic players, all from the “homegrown” training center, entering the tournaments, considered as “handicap” foreign players from other teams. The dream of regaining the position that the Hanoi Post Office men’s and women’s teams had built was also really far-fetched.

The leader of the Hanoi volleyball team, Mr. Bui Dinh Loi, Head of the Volleyball Department (Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center) - is also taking care of the technical aspects, and is also looking for sponsors everywhere, hoping to have a little more monthly support for the athletes. But even that is extremely difficult. Therefore, the team is forced to rely on attending festivals, or creating conditions for athletes to compete for other teams on loan, both to gain professional experience and to earn extra income.

At that time, the biggest wish of Hanoi volleyball managers and coaches was to have a sponsor. And to do this, they placed their hopes on the appearance of the Hanoi Volleyball Federation, thereby creating a more open mechanism in approaching businesses.

It should also be mentioned that the early stage of 2025 is also the time when the procedures to establish the Hanoi Volleyball Federation are being promoted. However, until the first stage of the National Championship, where the Hanoi men's volleyball team participates, the Federation has not been able to come into being. This means that the Hanoi men's volleyball team has not had any more support to hope to improve the situation, including increasing foreign players. The consequences are clear when the men's team lost all 5 matches in the first stage, with a high risk of relegation. And the Hanoi women's team in that situation also does not have much hope of promotion, especially when the A-League Volleyball Tournament also allows teams to hire foreign players.

Spectacular sprint

However, when the Hanoi Volleyball Federation was officially launched in early August, good news continuously came to the men's and women's teams of Hanoi. First, the men's team had foreign players for the first time, with financial support from the Federation. Next, the women's team had a sponsor, Tasco Auto. Thanks to that, the players had an additional monthly support - something the team leader had long desired. At the same time, the team also had foreign players and received professional support from famous Thai expert, Kittipong Pornchartyingcheep. Although the results could not be predicted, it was clearly a new, positive wind for the men's and women's volleyball teams of Hanoi.

And by the end of the tournaments, the answers really satisfied the insiders. The Hanoi men's team, which seemed to be relegated, had a spectacular journey to stay in the league, in which the Cambodian foreign player Kuon Mom played a clear role. The Hanoi Tasco Auto women's team also had an impressive journey in the final round of the 2025 A-Class Volleyball Tournament. With the brilliance of foreign players combined with a talented young squad, 3 of whom were called up to the national team, the Hanoi Tasco Auto women's team won the tournament and won the only ticket to the 2026 National Championship.

The journey of both teams is not only a tribute to the high-quality youth training system of Hanoi volleyball over the years. That journey is also associated with the Hanoi Volleyball Federation with its mark in calling on businesses to support Hanoi men's and women's teams. Therefore, when they stayed in the league, the men's team received a bonus of 50 million VND from the business, something that had never happened before. Or the Hanoi Tasco Auto women's team, with the national A-class championship, was also awarded 100 million VND by the Hanoi Volleyball Federation, and 500 million VND by Tasco Auto. That is not to mention the 50 million VND bonus for passing the semi-finals or 1,000 USD for passing the group stage. Those bonuses, which were a dream in 2024, have now come true. Head coach of the Hanoi Tasco Auto women's volleyball team, Nguyen Huu Binh, also acknowledged that material encouragement, in addition to funding to recruit foreign players, has had a positive impact on the Hanoi Tasco Auto women's team.

Mr. Bui Dinh Loi - Head of Volleyball Department (Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center), also General Secretary of Hanoi Volleyball Federation, also added that it is expected that in 2026, the Hanoi women's volleyball team will continue to sign contracts with foreign players. In October 2025, the men's team reached an agreement with Cambodian player Kuon Mom for this player to play for the team in the 2026 season.
