Barcelona can now sign new players and are no longer subject to financial restrictions. |
According to Sport , Tebas confirmed to Barcelona president Laporta that the Catalan club will soon return to meeting La Liga's financial requirements, based on the situation regarding player sales and new signings this summer.
This also allows them to spend in proportion to what they earn or save (known as the 1:1 rule). Until the end of June, Barcelona still lacked approximately €30 million in revenue to comply with La Liga's wage cap.
The Spanish top league has long applied a 1:1 rule, allowing clubs to spend proportionally to their earnings, provided that total salary and transfer costs remain within approved wage limits. In exceptional cases, clubs are only allowed to spend more than 60% of their earnings.
Barcelona, with a history of financial irregularities and the 1-1 rule, has been under close scrutiny from La Liga, as evidenced by the near cancellation of Dani Olmo's registration in January. According to The Athletic , Barcelona's problem isn't a lack of funds for player purchases, but rather a massive debt and high wage costs, with a total wage bill for the 2024/25 season estimated at €223.8 million.
To address this, Barcelona has taken several measures this summer, including successfully loaning out Ansu Fati and terminating Clément Lenglet's contract early, while also seeking to increase revenue. A key factor is the €100 million lease for 475 VIP seats at the new Camp Nou stadium, which needs to be approved by auditors to be included in the 2024/25 financial report.
This contract, along with other efforts such as the Barca Mobile project (virtual mobile network), is expected to help Barcelona return to the 1:1 rule, opening up the opportunity to sign two new players: goalkeeper Joan Garcia and Nico Williams.
Confirmation from Mr. Tebas indicates that Barcelona will soon meet the 1:1 rule requirements, thanks to Ansu Fati's departure to Monaco and the VIP seat contract at Camp Nou being recorded in the books.
