"After more than 10 years of raising goby fish, this year my family is happiest because the price of commercial fish is skyrocketing, bringing the family an income of more than 100 million VND for Tet," Ms. Tien said happily.

According to Ms. Tien, the price of 40 goby fish in her family's 2 ponds is fixed by traders at 170,000 VND/kg for 40 fish; 50 fish at 155,000 VND/kg...

This price is considered a record increase in many years in Ca Mau. Farmers said that the price of climbing perch increased from 30,000 - 50,000 VND/kg (depending on the type) compared to 1 month ago.

"Every year near Tet, the price of climbing perch increases, but this year it has increased the most," said Mr. Nguyen Van Dao, a fish farmer in Cai Nuoc district, adding that the reason for the increase in fish prices is because the market demand for this specialty during Tet is very high.

To anticipate the increase in goby fish prices before, during and after Tet, many goby fish farmers in Ca Mau start releasing the fish around the 7th lunar month every year.

"The price of goby fish fry this year is relatively high, about 10 million VND/kg. However, after a few months of raising, the fish have reached the quantity and quality, and the price is good, so almost all farmers make a profit," said Mr. Nguyen Van Den.

According to Mr. Den, with his family's 2 ponds, he released 8 kg of goby fish fry, priced at 10 million VND/kg. Up to now, after deducting all expenses, the family still has a profit of about 120 million VND.

Traders said the reason for the sharp increase in goby fish prices near Tet is because demand in the market is increasing sharply.

Trader Tran Van Au said that this product is popular in the market at the moment, because consumers are tired of fatty meat, so they often choose goby fish to prepare family dishes.

"Currently, my facility buys several tons of fish every day near Tet, and with the current high prices, pond owners are making big profits," Mr. Au shared.
